Keith McElveen, an electrical engineer, discovered this problem when he was working on a war crimes case. He had to figure out who said what in recordings full of overlapping voices. Turns out, separating voices is way harder than removing car noises or fans.
After years of research, Keith's company, Wave Sciences, created an AI that can solve this tricky problem. The AI works by figuring out where each sound in a room comes from, then filters out the voices that don’t matter. It’s kind of like a camera focusing on one thing and blurring out the background.
This AI has already helped solve real-world cases and is being used by the military. One day, it might even make your smart speaker hear you perfectly, no matter how noisy things are around you!
