Abstract
A process is provided for operating a fuel cell system (), especially in a motor vehicle, wherein the fuel cell system () includes at least one reformer () and at least one fuel cell (). To prolong the service life of the system (), a warm-holding mode is carried out after switching off the fuel cell system (). During the warm-holding mode an educt containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide is fed to the reformer () and reacted with air in reformer () at a catalyst () of reformer () in an exothermal reaction.
