Abstract
A storage systemproviding a storage area to an external devicecomprises a plurality of storage apparatusesandof different performance capabilities, and a storage controller. The storage controllerholds storage cost coefficientsof the respective storage apparatusesand, user cost allocation informationfor each user using the storage systemfrom the external device, and user cost distribution informationthat defines, for each user, proportions of an available space amount distributed to the storage apparatusesand. The storage controllercalculates an ideal utilizationfor each user, from the storage cost coefficientsand the user cost distribution information, and allocates, for each user, the ideal utilizationto each of the storage apparatusesand, in the order of the performance capabilities from highest to lowest.
