A dielectric layer for use in a magneto-optic storage medium contains a compound glass of SiO,—MO,, SiO,—M,O,, or SiO,—M,O,and combinations thereof where M is selected from Zr, Ti, Al, Nb, Y, Sn, In, Ta and Sb.
