Abstract

Pyrazole intermediates in a method for the preparation of &bgr;-amino acid compounds are provided. The method includes contacting an amine nucleophile with an &agr;,&bgr;-unsaturated amide compound in the presence of a chiral Lewis acid complex. The chiral Lewis acid complex is formed from an azophilic metal salt and a chiral bisoxazolinylmethane compound. The selective amidolysis of one enantiomer of the &bgr;-aminoamide product is also described.
