Abstract

The analgesic effectiveness of tramadol is significantly enhanced by administering tramadol prior to, with or following the administration of an analgesia enhancer which is a nontoxic NMDA receptor blocker and/or a nontoxic substance that blocks at least one major intracellular consequence of NMDA receptor activation.
