Abstract

Improved welding stud (,) includes a generally cylindrical body (,). A first series of annular rings (,) are disposed on a first end portion (,) of the cylindrical body (,). A second series of annular rings (,) are disposed on a second end portion (,) of the cylindrical body (,). The rings (,) are asymmetrical and have reverse configurations. Thus, the annular rings (,) on one end portion of the stud are a mirror image of the rings (,) on the opposite end portion of the stud. Either end of the stud (,) may be stud welded to a base member (,) using the drawn arm short cycle or gas arc stud welding processes. A cap (,) may then be press fitted onto the opposite end of the stud to secure insulation.
