Abstract

An antireflection film comprising a transparent substrate film, a hard coat layer formed on the transparent substrate film either directly or through other layer, and a low-refractive-index layer formed on the hard coat layer either directly or through other layer, wherein the low-refractive-index layer is a SiO.sub.2 gel layer formed by using a SiO.sub.2 sol prepared by hydrolyzing a silicon alkoxide represented by CH.sub.3 Si(OR).sub.3 wherein R is an alkyl group having 1 to 3 carbon atoms.
