Abstract
The invention relates to a novel process for preparing 3-hydroxyphenylacetic acid by cultivating a fungus of the genus Rhizoctonia, Ceratobasidium and Pellicularia in the presence of a phenyl compound of the formula I ##STR1## where X is COOR, CH.sub.2 OH, CH.sub.2 NH.sub.2 or ##STR2## R is methyl, ethyl, hydrogen, sodium, potassium or ammonium.
