Abstract

A method of producing a titanium material having enhanced resistance to hydrogen absorption in aqueous hydrogen sulfide solutions which comprises removing a layer of at least 0.5 .mu.m depth from the surface of a titanium material that has been annealed after cold rolling so that titanium nitride, titanium carbide, or titanium carbonitride formed on the surface is removed. It is preferable that the titanium material has no flaw in the depth beyond 10 .mu.m from the surface. It is desirable that the titanium material is polished so that it has a surface roughness Rmax not exceeding 3.0 .mu.m. It is also preferred that the titanium surface has an oxide film ranging in thickness from 15 to 500 nm formed thereon.
