Abstract

A near infrared absorbing composition is disclosed, containing at least one compound represented by general formula (I), having its absorption maxima at wavelengths of 720 nm or more: ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group; R.sup.2 and R.sup.5, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or a group capable of substituting a hydrogen atom; R.sup.3 and R.sup.4, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a substituted or unsubstituted alkoxy group or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group with the proviso that they do not simultaneously represent hydrogen atoms; and R.sup.6 and R.sup.7, which may be the same or different, each represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, an acyl group or a sulfonyl group, or R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 may be taken together to form a 5- or 6-membered ring.
