Abstract

X-ray attenuating ceramic materials having at least one substance selected from the group including compounds of strontium, zirconium, yttrium, niobium, molybdenum, neodymium and tungsten are disclosed. A zinc compound can be used for fluxing and X-ray attenuation in certain ceramic materials. The materials can be formed into strong, non-porous bodies such as cathode ray tube funnels. Such materials include forsteritic porcelains manufactured from batches containing strontium zirconate. Other X-ray attenuating ceramics contain a mixture of X-ray attenuating substances, including a compound of barium.
