Abstract

A process for preparing a magnetic coating composition using a dried magnetic metal powder, or a magnetic metal powder containing 50% by weight or less of a solvent is described. The process comprises adding from 0.1 to 10 parts by weight of an abrasive, from 5 to 20 parts by weight of a main binder, and from 0 to 60 parts by weight of a solvent to 100 parts by weight (calculated as a dry powder) of the magnetic metal powder and, thereafter, kneading the resulting mixture while applying a shearing stress of from about 20 to about 300 kg/cm.sup.2.
