Abstract

A 2-(.alpha.-substituted alkyl)-2-imidazoline represented by the general formula I: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 represents a C.sub.6 -C.sub.20 alkyl or alkenyl group and R.sub.2 represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 alkyl group which is novel and useful as an intermediate for useful surfactants and polymer-modifiers.
