Abstract

Synthetic oakmoss extracts of alkyl-substituted .beta.-resorcylic acid esters useful as perfume ingredients, are prepared by refluxing alkyl-substituted dihydro-.beta.-resorcylic acid esters with sulphuric acid and acetic anhydride, followed by saponifying the resultant diacetate.
