Abstract

Dimethyl formamide is produced in high yield with high selectivity by reaction of monomethyl formamide with trimethylamine and carbon monoxide in the presence of a catalyst such as halogen elements, halides, inorganic acids, solid acids and metal carbonyls at a temperature of 150.degree. to 300.degree. C under a pressure of 20 kg/cm.sup.2 gage or higher.
