Abstract

Dispersible colloidal particles of .alpha. alumina monohydrate are prepared by conditioning aqueous solutions of an aluminum salt with an organic solvent and the precipitating alumina with an aqueous solution of base. The reaction mixture is heated under pressure, filtered, washed and dried to obtain the product.
