Abstract
This application provides a data transmission method and a terminal device. The terminal device includes a primary subscriber identity module (SIM) card and a secondary SIM card. When the primary SIM card detects that a specified event is started, the terminal device obtains remaining duration corresponding to the secondary SIM card. The terminal device determines first preset duration corresponding to the specified event. When the remaining duration is less than the first preset duration, the terminal device sends preset signaling to a network device through small data transmission. According to this application, it may be determined, based on a currently started event, whether to transmit the preset signaling through small data transmission.
