Abstract
A method for manufacturing an acoustic wave device includes polishing a sapphire substrate, placing a magnesium oxide substrate or magnesium oxide powder on a main surface of the sapphire substrate, forming a polycrystalline spinel layer by heat treatment, removing the magnesium oxide from spinel layer and polishing the polycrystalline spinel layer, and forming a piezoelectric substrate on the polycrystalline spinel layer. The heat treatment is performed at a temperature of from 1300° C. to 1600° C. for a duration of from 0.1 hours to 48 hours.
