Abstract
A stapling device comprising a shaft having a locked state and an unlocked state, an anvil, and a replaceable staple cartridge attachable to the shaft is disclosed. The staple cartridge comprises a cartridge body, staples removably stored in the cartridge body, a metal pan attached to the cartridge body, and a sled. The stapling device further comprises a firing member movable longitudinally through a staple firing stroke when the shaft is in the unlocked state. The firing member comprises an anvil cam configured to engage the anvil and a cartridge cam configured to engage the staple cartridge. The stapling device further comprises a lock. The anvil cam is positioned vertically above the lock and the cartridge cam is positioned vertically below the lock. The lock is movable vertically relative to the metal pan when the shaft is placed in its unlocked state.
