F., are rendered storage stable relative to the retention of recoverable levels of the L-aspartic acid derivative by adding freely dispersed hydrogenated starch hydrolysate thereto, thereby allowing for the effective use of relatively low levels of such L-aspartic acid derivative therein.

The fat or oil is present in an amount of from about 25% to about 45% of the mixture. As a result of the mixture coated on the antacid particles a non-chalky, non-gritty, antacid tablet is provided which readily disintegrates upon exposure to saliva as such way as to function as a liquid antacid.

An improved compressed soft chewable tablet is provided, which may contain an antacid or other active ingredient, has good flexibility, is breakage resistant and disintegrates immediately upon chewing. The tablet of the invention is formed of particles of antacid and/or other active ingredient which are isolated from other ingredients of the tablet, preferably by admixing particles of active ingredient with particles formed of edible fat or oil absorbed on a fat-absorbing material, such as microcrystalline cellulose and blending such particles with one or more tablet bonders; the tablet also includes additional amounts of tablet bonders, flavors and other conventional tabletting aids to help in making the tablet more palatable. Upon chewing, the tablet is quickly converted to a smooth creamy non-gritty palatable emulsion.

Compressed chewable antacid tablet and method for forming same

An improved compressed soft chewable tablet is provided, which may contain an antacid or other active ingredient, has good flexibility, is breakage resistant and disintegrates immediately upon chewing. The tablet of the invention is formed of particles of a recrystallized fatty material, such as chocolate, a bulking material such as sugar or an active ingredient, such as an antacid, bound up in the particles of recrystallized fatty material, and a direct compaction vehicle which binds the particles of recrystallized fatty material and bulking material, under compression, into a chewable tablet.

A tobacco-flavored chewing gum is provided which does not decrease in viscosity upon chewing inasmuch as it is preferably essentially free of water-solubles, and includes gum base containing high levels of inert fillers, such as calcium carbonate or talc in amounts of at least about 50% by weight, softeners, such as lecithin, synthetic non-caloric sweeteners, such as aspartame, saccharin or cyclamates, and tobacco flavors and/or natural tobacco. The chewing gum includes at least about 10% air voids entrapped in the gum base matrix which, upon chewing, become filled with moisture causing a dramatic increase in cud volume.
