A gas analyzer having an analysis or sensor unit and having an electronic processing unit, and a method for operating such a gas analyzer. In order to achieve substantially improved safety both in handling corrosive and/or combustible and/or toxic gases in a not potentially explosive atmosphere (ex-free atmosphere), and in the operation of such an analyzer in an ex-atmosphere, the analysis or sensor unit as such is of non-explosive configuration and is arranged in a gas tight chamber through which a toxic and/or corrosive and/or combustible gas flows and around which a second chamber is arranged.

Gas analyzer and a method for operating the same

A method for measuring NOx having a specific discharge lamp. The method controls a photometric analysis device, in which an electrically rotatable filter wheel or shutter wheel is used to change various shutters and/or filters in a beam path with beam source, cuvette and detector. The filter and/or shutter wheel is controlled in such a way that the measurement time is greater than the transfer time. This control improves the detection limit of the NOx resonance absorption method.

A photometer for measuring gas components. The photometer has an infrared radiator with radiator modulation, a measuring cell with a measurement and comparison chamber, and a detector which absorbs optopneumatically onto the gas component X, that is filled with gas component X. In order in the case of a photometer of this type to render it possible for a plurality of gas components to be measured with high accuracy and the smallest possible outlay in apparatus, at least one further detector is arranged downstream of the first detector. For the purpose of measuring the gas component Y the further detector is filled with its isotope Y*, and the first detector is optically transparent with regard to the further gas component Y* to be measured or the characteristic absorption bands thereof.

Photometer with non-dispersive infraded absorption spectroscopy (NDIR) for measuring several constituents

A magnetomechanical gas analyzer such a paramagnetic oxygen analyzer which has a dumbbell which is rotatably suspended in the region of action of an inhomogeneous magnetic field and around which a gas to be measured flows. The dumbbell is connected, fixed in rotation, to a mirror for deflecting a light beam. In order to damp in the analyzer all kinds of oscillations which have a negative effect on stability in the balance point, and to increase the detectability and the speed of the measurement, there are least two electrically conductive surface segments which are essentially perpendicular to one another are arranged for eddy-current damping on the dumbbell or in the mechanical gearing on the dumbbell and in the region of action of the inhomogeneous magnetic field. One of the surface segments may be the mirror.

An electrodeless discharge lamp having a gas filling consisting of a gas mixture for generating gas-specific resonance radiation, wherein the lamp vessel is made of glass. To facilitate replacement and mounting of the electrodeless lamp, the discharge lamp is arranged within a metallic housing and the lamp vessel is disposed together with the high frequency coil as well as any electronic elements on a printed circuit board which is connected with the cover of the lamp housing.

A method and an apparatus for the selective determination of an isotope portion of a measuring gas by means of non-dispersive spectroscopy. The method includes sensitizing in a first ray path to the isotope component and sensitizing in a second ray path to the isotope-pure measuring gas, and electronically amplifying the measurement results. In order to improve the selectively and the sensitivity while maintaining a simple construction, an additional optical filtering is carried out in the first ray path by a filter filled essentially with isotope-pure measuring gas and the electronic measuring value of the second ray path is entered by influencing the amplification factor and an offset in the electronic amplification of the first ray path.

Non-dispersive infrared spectrometer

An apparatus for measuring the total content of organic carbon (TOC) and nitrogen (TN) in water. The TOC value is correctly determined as the sum of the liquid, dissolved, and solid substances of a specimen of the water. The apparatus includes a NDIR gas analyzer for simultaneously measuring the concentration of CO.sub.2 and NO gas components with a phase separator, a thermal reactor, a condenser, and two amplifiers for the pneumatic signals of the receivers with an indicator for the measured TOC and TN concentrations. The specimen is split into a gaseous part and a liquid part in the phase separator. The gaseous part which essentially contains the inorganic fraction of carbon, the TIC fraction, in the form of CO.sub.2 gas is cooled in a condenser until a substantial fraction of its water vapor content is separated in the condenser by condensation. The dried gaseous part is directed via the comparison vessels as comparison gas. The gaseous part exiting from the comparison vessels is returned to the liquid part of the specimen again in its entirety and oxidized together with the latter in a thermal reactor. The gas specimen which is formed in so doing is charged via the condenser with water vapor having the same temperature as the comparison gas and is fed to the measurement chambers of the vessels as measurement gas which contains the entire carbon dioxide fraction and the entire nitrogen oxide fraction of the gas specimen.

Apparatus for measuring the total content of organic carbon and nitrogen

The invention relates to a method for measuring of the total content of organic carbon and of nitrogen in water. The total organic carbon value is obtained correctly as the sum of the liquid, dissolved, and solid materials of a sample of the water. The device comprises a non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) gas analyzer for the simultaneous measurement of the concentration of the gas components carbon dioxide CO.sub.2 and nitrogen oxide NO. The NDIR gas analyzer includes a phase separator (50), a thermal reactor (52), a double cooler (70), two valves (54, 56), as well as two amplifiers (58, 60) for the pneumatic signals of the receiver detectors (30, 36) with a display (62. 64) for the measured concentrations, total organic carbon and total nitrogen. The sample is split in a phase separator (50) into a gaseous and into a liquid part. The gaseous part, which comprises substantially the inorganic part of the carbon, the total inorganic carbon part in the form of carbon dioxide CO.sub.2 gas, is cooled in a cooler to such an extent that a substantial part its water vapor content is deposited in the cooler by condensation. The dried gaseous part is led as comparison gas through the comparison cuvette. This step serves to compensate the total inorganic carbon part of the sample and to compensate for unavoidable water vapor cross-sensitivities during the measurement of the carbon dioxide CO.sub.2 concentration and of the nitrogen oxide NO concentration.

A method for measuring of the total content of organic carbon and of nitrogen in water. The total organic carbon value is obtained correctly as the sum of the liquid, dissolved, and solid materials of a sample of the water. This step serves to compensate the total inorganic carbon part of the sample and to compensate for unavoidable water vapor cross-sensitivities during the measurement of the carbon dioxide CO.sub.2 concentration and of the nitrogen oxide NO concentration.

A method for making a gas chamber for photometric measuring equipment comprises providing a metal frame with recesses on opposite sides establishing a web and at least one opening in the web and having solder surface areas; providing at least two calcium fluoide panes, said panes each having a rim portion; is improved by providing rim surface portions of the panes about to face the recess-web portion of said metal frame with a plurality of layers, by (i) physical vapor depositing a thin chromium nickel layer, (ii) physical vapor depositing thereon a nickel layer, and (iii) by physical vapor depositing thereon a gold layer; vapor depositing on the web portion around the opening of said recesses a gold layer; providing at least two solder elements of basically ring-shaped configuration respectively to be interposed between the web and the panes, the soldering elements being configured so that between their respective outer contour and walls of the recesses a solder flow space obtains when the solder elements are placed into the recesses; and soldering the element on one side for solder-connecting the respective pane to the web at a temperature of about 213.degree. C. in an inert gas and the other element on the other side of and to the web and the respective other pane at a soldering temperature at about 170.degree. C. in an inert gas.

Apparatus for monitoring and correcting gas analyzers having a measuring chamber with an inlet and an outlet, and a pump for supplying a pressurized measuring gas, further includes a flow throttle for providing flow resistance and being connected to the outlet of the analyzer to obtain a gas pressure in the chamber above a level downstream from the throttle; a pressure transducer is connected to measuring gas pressure of the measuring gas upstream from the throttle but downstream from the pump, preferably also upstream from the analyzer; an output signal from the transducer is used for correcting errors of the measuring signal of the gas analyzer caused by variations of gas pressure in the measuring chamber on account of variations in the gas pressure, for using the same output signal to extract a rate of flow indication as to the measuring gas and for ascertaining that the flow remains within specified limits.

Compensation and calibration method for a nondispersive infrared gas analyzer which includes an infrared source of radiation, a measuring path, a reference path, modulation devices, a detector for differential pressure measuring, comprises the following steps: first and prior to measurement, the reference gas having a variable basic concentration in the measuring component is forced through the reference branch and through the measuring branch and the detector is set to a zero position; next a dual calibration chamber is placed into the two reference paths while both of them are still passed through by the reference gas, one of the calibration chambers including a particular concentration in the measuring gas the other one lacking that measuring gas; now the sensitivity and amplification of the detector that obtains as a result of changes in the radiation on account of placing the calibration chamber into the reference and measuring path is adjusted, whereupon the calibration chamber is removed, reference gas still is passed through the reference chamber, while measuring gas now flows through the measuring chamber.
