A method for producing a laminate, the method comprising at least a pretreatment step of pretreating a surface of a substrate made of a plastic film by reactive ion etching so that the maximum displacement of the substrate surface measured by local thermal analysis is 300 nm or more, and a lamination step of laminating a thermoplastic resin layer made of a material different from that of the substrate on the pretreated surface of the substrate; wherein the plastic film is a polyethylene terephthalate film.

A gas barrier laminate of the present invention includes a biaxially-oriented polypropylene base and an aluminum oxide thin film formed on one surface of the biaxially-oriented polypropylene base. The biaxially-oriented polypropylene base has a plane orientation factor &#x394;P ranging from 0.005 to 0.020 according to phase-contrast measurement. Further, the gas barrier laminate of the present invention includes a biaxially-oriented polypropylene base and an aluminum oxide thin film formed on one surface of the biaxially-oriented polypropylene base. Laminate

A liquid crystal display having a wide viewing angle and easily manufactured. The liquid crystal display comprises an upper substrate and a lower substrate, and a liquid crystal material disposed between the upper substrate and the lower substrate. The liquid crystal display has a conductive protrusion disposed on the surface of the upper substrate opposing to the lower substrate. The conductive protrusion is disposed over a scanning electrode line or a signal electrode line and has the same potential as that of the upper electrode. As another structure, each of pixel electrodes on the lower substrate has a smaller area than that of a common electrode on the upper substrate and is covered by the common electrode, and each of the pixel electrodes comprises an electrode portion having approximately symmetrical shape.

Liquid crystal display and method of manufacturing the same and method of driving the same

An electrically-floating light shielding film is formed on a glass substrate, and a signal line is formed above the light shielding film via a gate insulating film. The light shielding film is formed along the signal line, and has a width larger than that of the signal line. On an interlayer insulating film that covers the signal line, transparent electrodes of neighboring pixels are formed, and a reflective electrode extending from the transparent electrode has a frame portion disposed along the signal line. The reflective electrode is formed the interlayer insulating film. The light shielding film does not overlap the transparent electrode in a plan-view perspective and overlaps the reflective portion in a plan-view perspective. The signal line does not overlap the reflective electrode in a plan-view perspective. Hence, a semitransparent liquid crystal display device that suppresses vertical crosstalk and as well maintains a high aperture ratio is obtained.

Semitransparent liquid crystal display

A picture electrode of an MVA liquid crystal display device has a configuration where sub-picture electrodes are successively provided, while a cross-shaped slit is provided as an alignment restriction member on a common electrode of the side of a counter substrate. A columnar spacer is provided on a signal line of a TFT substrate in conformity to a position of a singular point of an alignment of liquid crystal molecules, the singularity occurring in a display region. This structure makes it possible, when a panel surface is depressed, to cause quick re-aligning of the liquid crystal molecules at the singular point of +1, as a base point, which has occurred at a center of the cross-shaped slit and in the vicinity of the columnar spacer, hence achieving a speedy recovery of displaying.

A pixel electrode to be connected to a source electrodeis disposed through a through hole formed in an overcoat layer (interlayer separation film). On the first substrate below the color filter layerare provided plural scan signal electrodes, plural video signal electrodes crossing the scan signal electrodes in a matrix form, plural thin film transistors formed in association with the crossing points between the electrodes. Each pixel is provided with a common electrodewhich is connected over plural pixels through a common electrode wire to supply reference potential, and a pixel electrodewhich is connected to the corresponding thin film transistor and disposed so as to confront the common electrode in the pixel area.

Liquid crystal display device and method of manufacturing the same

To provide a liquid crystal device a liquid crystal display having a high contrast over wide viewing angles while reducing the color distortion. A liquid crystal display device comprises a first substrate on which a plurality of pixel electrodes are formed, a second substrate on which an opposing electrode is formed, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates, the second substrate further having thereon a plurality of protrusions, each of the protrusions being positioned at a substantially central portion of a corresponding one of the pixel electrodes.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal cell, first and second polarizers disposed outside the liquid crystal cell, first and second retardation plates arranged between the first and second polarizers, and the liquid crystal cell, and optical layers arranged between the first and second retardation plates and the liquid crystal cell. The first and second retardation plates have lagging axes perpendicular with each other. The first polarizer has an absorption axis inclining by about 45 degrees relative to the lagging axis of the first retardation plate, and inclining by about 90 degrees relative to an absorption axis of the second polarizer. The absorption axes of the first and second polarizers are angularly deviated such that characteristic of a viewing angle in the liquid crystal display device is rendered symmetric, relative to a symmetry axis about which liquid crystal is aligned in different directions.

A reflection liquid crystal display is such that a transparent substrate is opposed to the first substrate with a liquid crystal layer placed therebetween, and the transparent substrate is disposed forward to the first substrate in the light-incident direction. A quarter-wavelength plate is disposed in the transparent substrate, and a polarization plate is disposed on the surface at the forward side thereof in the light-incident direction. And, a reflection layer besides acting as a color filter consisting of a cholesteric liquid crystal is disposed inside liquid crystal cells of the first substrate. In the case of a wide field-of-view angle, a scattering film is disposed forward to the polarization plate in the light-incident direction.

A liquid crystal display device includes (a) a first substrate including a first area in which an incident light is reflected and a second area through which a light passes, and further including a pixel electrode covering the first and second areas therewith, (b) a second substrate including at least an opposing electrode, (c) a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates and including liquid crystal molecules each having a major axis aligned perpendicularly to the first and second substrates when no electric field is applied thereto, and (d) a first alignment-controller for controlling alignment of the liquid crystal molecules, the first alignment-controller being arranged at a boundary of the first and second areas or in the vicinity of the boundary.

In an orientation division type liquid crystal display device for widen a viewing angle of a display pixel of an active matrix type liquid crystal color display device having a COT structure, pixel color layers (B,R,G) as color filters and pixel electrodesare formed on a substrate on the side of the pixel electrodes and slopesare provided along four side peripheries of each pixel electrode. Liquid crystal moleculesbetween each pixel electrode of the pixel electrode substrate and a common electrode of an opposing substrate are controlled in orientation direction along the slopes to divide it to a plurality of directions to thereby widen a viewing angle of a pixel display. The slope is formed on a step portionformed by a BM layer formed on at least one of a gate electrode, a drain electrode and a source electrode formed in a periphery of the pixel electrode or at least one of a gate wiring and a drain wiring formed in the periphery or a step portion formed by partially overlapping peripheral portions of the adjacent pixel color layers.
