By using an image signal acquired by picking up a sample to be inspected by a color video camera, penetrant inspection and magnetic-particle inspection which are non-destructive inspections are carried out so that deficiency candidates including a pseudo deficiency are automatically detected and are displayed on a screen. A real deficiency can be detected from the deficiency candidates displayed on the screen. As image data is stored in memory means, information of a deficiency can be repeatedly reproduced on the screen. In the penetrant inspection, the chromaticity at each position on an image is acquired, a deficiency candidate is extracted based on the chrominance, and the deficiency is distinguished from a pseudo deficiency based on the differential value of the chrominance. A polarization filter is used to eliminate regular reflection originated from illumination in the penetrant inspection, and an ultraviolet-rays cutting filter is attached to the camera to prevent noise in the magnetic-particle inspection. Equipped with both a white illuminating lamp and an ultraviolet illuminating lamp, both inspections can be carried out with a single probe.

Non-destructive inspection method and apparatus therefor

The present invention relates to a method for inspecting a crack in a metal surface or the like, and, particularly, to an inspection method and apparatus for nondestructive inspection such as liquid penetrant inspection and magnetic particle testing. The present invention provides a flaw inspection method that essentially comprises the steps of illuminating a surface of a sample to be inspected, obtaining an image of the surface, characterizing a potential flaw on the inspected surface by processing the obtained image, displaying an image of the potential flaw, verifying that the potential flaw is a true flaw, and storing an image of the verified flaw in memory.

A method for repairing a liquid crystal display provided with a light transmitting member having an image display section. The method includes filling a filler, which has a refractive index substantially equal to that of the light transmitting member, into a scratch or scratches formed on inside and outside surfaces of the light transmitting member so as to repair the scratch or scratches.

Image display device and its repairing method and apparatus

An image display device for repairing a scratch or scratches on a surface or surfaces of a light transmitting member having an image display section such an extent that the presence of the scratch or scratches cannot be visually perceived at at least in a bright view distance in all directions, and in which device a liquid filler having a refractive index equivalent to or on the same order of that of the light transmitting member is locally filled only into an area of the scratch or scratches, and the filler is cured. By controlling an amount of the filler so that a difference in level between a surface of the light transmitting member and a surface of the filler is at least &plusmn;5.0 &mgr;m or less and that an angle defined between a surface of the filler and a surface of the light transmitting member is at least 45 degrees or less or preferably at least 10 degrees or less, it is possible to exhibit display quality to such a degree that the presence of the scratch or scratches cannot be recognized.

An apparatus for identifying positions of pixel defects on a display screen, such as a cathode-ray tube or a liquid crystal display, operates to pick up an image signal of a display screen representing a predetermined image with an imaging camera, shift the image signal of the imaging camera by one pixel in one and another directions with respect to the display screen, and obtain a difference of a signal level between a defective portion and a normal portion on the screen, based on the signals obtained when the image signal of the imaging camera is shifted in one and another directions. The apparatus also serves to calculate a relative inclination between the imaging camera and the display screen for obtaining a difference of a signal level between a defective portion and a normal portion of each pixel. The results make it possible to clearly identify the difference of the signal level between the defective portion and the normal portion.

Method and apparatus for checking defect on display screen

For the purpose of automated evaluation of white uniformity, the apparatus comprises a color television camera for picking up an image of white color displayed on the color cathode-ray tube, a circuit for separating color signals from the output signal of the color television camera, A/D converters for converting the analog color signals into digital color signals, memories for storing the digital color signals, and a computer for analyzing the contents of the memories. A nonuniform color portion is extracted from the color distribution of the display on the cathode-ray tube, and quantities of various features of the nonuniform color portion, for example, the hue, saturation and area of the nonuniform color portion and the degree of change in the saturation at the marginal edge contour of the nonuniform color portion are calculated by the computer to provide parameters used for evaluation of the white uniformity. Then, the white uniformity of the display on the color cathode-ray tube is quantitatively evaluated on the basis of the previous experimental, visually evaulated relation between the individual parameters and the results of visual evaluation of the white uniformity.
