A three-dimensional computer-generated environment can be presented to a user. The user can create a virtual representation of a real-world object within the computer-generated environment by directing an input device towards the real-world object and tracing contours of the real-world object. The virtual representation can include voxels. The user can edit the virtual representation or create a new virtual object formed of voxels by depositing or removing voxels at virtual locations within the computer-generated environment based on selection inputs, release inputs, and optionally movement inputs detected by the input device. In some cases, the user can provide inputs via another input source, such as a hand of the user, that are detected by additional sensors or devices.

Systems and methods of creating and editing virtual objects using voxels

In some embodiments, a computer system performs virtual object manipulation operations using respective portions of the user's body and/or input device(s). In some embodiments, a computer system manipulates a virtual object based on input from a hand of a user and/or a handheld device. In some embodiments, a computer system manipulates a virtual object directly or indirectly.

Methods for manipulating a virtual object

A system for combining six degree of freedom (6DOF) inputs, or positional and orientation inputs, from multiple 6DOF controllers in an augmented reality (AR) environment and/or a virtual reality (VR) environment is provided. In response to the detected movement of multiple controllers, and in particular, rotational movement of the multiple controllers providing user inputs in a virtual reality environment, the detected movements of the multiple controllers may be resolved to a single, common coordinate system to determine intended input to be applied to a selected virtual object in the virtual environment. The ability to resolve these inputs from multiple 6DOF controllers to a common coordinate system may provide a more natural user input mode, thus enhancing the user's experience.

Manipulating virtual objects with six degree-of-freedom controllers in an augmented and/or virtual reality environment

A method includes: associating, in a computer system, a virtual controller with a physical controller; allocating a first function to the virtual controller, the allocation providing for performance of the first function using the physical controller; detecting a gesture performed using the physical controller; and in response to detecting the gesture, de-allocating the first function from, or allocating a second function to, the virtual controller.
