An engine head gasket includes a base layer, an upper layer, and a lower layer. The base layer includes a base layer inner edge. The engine head gasket further includes an anti-preignition wrap defining a cylinder opening and wrapped around the base layer inner edge. The engine head gasket is configured with a combustion seal and selective thicknesses to direct a combustion sealing load to a cylinder block. The anti-preignition wrap shields angular corners of the base layer inner edge from a cylinder to limit preignition.

A piston includes an annular body including a crown portion defining a longitudinal axis, a radial direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis, and a circumferential direction. The crown portion includes a top squish surface, and a circumferential annular wall extending downwardly axially from the top squish surface as well as a skirt. A first piston ring receiving groove is spaced away from the top squish surface, an upper land and a lower land extend from the first piston ring receiving groove, and a bottom blend connects the lower land to the first piston ring receiving groove.

A cylinder liner assembly for inclusion in the cylinder bore of an internal combustion engine includes a sleeve-like cylinder liner and an anti-polishing ring to scrape combustion deposits from a piston reciprocally movable along an axis line of the cylinder liner. A fire dam may axially protrude from a first liner end of the cylinder liner and may have an obliquely angled chamfer disposed therein circumscribing the axis line. To locate the anti-polishing ring proximate to the top land of the piston when at the top dead center position, the anti-polishing ring can include a cuff header disposed at the first cuff end that is generally triangular and has an angled undercut corresponding to the obliquely angled chamfer. When mated, the chamfer and angled undercut abut against each other.

An exhaust treatment system for machine is disclosed that includes a burner body having an inlet for receiving a flow of exhaust, an outlet for the exhaust flow to exit, an opening and a receiving mount disposed around the opening. A fuel injector head is mounted over the opening in any one of a plurality of angular positions relative to the body. The burner body includes a plurality of mounting pads extending at least partially and circumferentially around the burner body for coupling a support bracket to the burner body in any one of a plurality of positions relative to the burner body. The support bracket may be used to couple the burner to a fixture device such as a cradle for supporting other exhaust treatment system components.

A fluid injector for an exhaust treatment device is disclosed. The fluid injector may have a housing at least partially forming a fluid chamber. The housing may have a central axis, and a fluid passageway configured to supply fluid to the fluid chamber. The supply of fluid may be in a tangential direction relative to the central axis.

An exhaust aftertreatment system includes a combustion head housing defining a plenum, and an air supply system including an air conduit fluidly connected with the plenum. The aftertreatment system further includes a fuel system having a fuel supply housing defining a fuel passage, a control valve positioned within the fuel passage and a fuel filtering mechanism having a filtering component positioned within the fuel passage fluidly between a fuel inlet and the control valve. A nozzle is mounted within the combustion head housing and defines a nozzle outlet, and a fuel conduit extends between the fuel supply housing and the combustion head housing. The control valve includes an open state in which the fuel system defines an unobstructed fuel flow path from the fuel inlet to the nozzle outlet. A non-serviceable fuel filtering mechanism is coupled with the combustion head housing, and a serviceable fuel filtering mechanism is reversibly coupled with the combustion head housing and positioned upstream the non-serviceable fuel filtering mechanism. In a related aspect, a diesel engine service package includes a fuel filtering mechanism having a threaded body component and a filtering component having a cup shape and being formed of a sintered metallic filter medium.

An exhaust treatment device for a combustion system is disclosed. The exhaust treatment device may have a housing, and an injector disposed within the housing to deliver an injection fluid into a flow of exhaust. The exhaust treatment device may also have at least one fluid supply passage that is disposed within the housing and being in fluid communication with the injector to supply the injector with injection fluid. The exhaust treatment device may further have at least one purge passage disposed within the housing and in fluid communication with the injector to supply the injector with a purge fluid. The exhaust treatment device may additionally have a first valve element that is mounted to the housing and disposed at an entrance of the at least one purge passage The first valve element may be configured to provide a unidirectional flow of purge fluid to the at least one purge passage.

A regeneration device for use in an exhaust treatment system is disclosed. The regeneration device has a first housing with a plurality of passages configured to receive coolant and injection fluid. A second housing is secured to the first housing and configured to receive coolant and injection fluid. The second housing has at least one cooling recess annularly disposed within the second housing to receive and circulate coolant in proximity to a tip end of the second housing.

A regeneration device is disclosed. The regeneration device may include a housing and a perforated plate. The housing may have a passage configured to receive a flow of combustion air, and a separate bore configured to receive an electrical device. The perforated plate may be mounted to the housing to at least partially define an air chamber. Furthermore, the regeneration device may include at least one purge passageway located to communicate combustion air from the air chamber with the bore.

A variable valve actuation system is disclosed for providing exhaust to at least one component downstream of an engine. The system includes a supply of low pressure fluid, an engine fluid sump, and an exhaust valve disposed in an engine cylinder. The system also includes a hydraulic actuation system operably connected to the exhaust valve of the engine cylinder and a braking control valve operably connected to the hydraulic actuation system. The system further includes a device for accumulating fluid and a device for fluidly coupling the hydraulic actuation system to the accumulating device.

An aftertreatment burner for an exhaust treatment device is disclosed. The aftertreatment burner may have a mounting member, and a canister connected to the mounting member to form a combustion chamber. The aftertreatment burner may also have a fuel injector disposed within the mounting member to selectively inject fuel into combustion chamber, and an air supply line configured to supply air to the combustion chamber. The aftertreatment burner may further have an igniter disposed within the mounting member to ignite the fuel/air mixture, and a thermal couple configured to detect the ignition.

A spark plug arrangement for an exhaust treatment device is disclosed. The spark plug arrangement may have a body, and a center electrode extending from an end of the body. The spark plug arrangement may further have a mounting member with a bore configured to receive the body, and a grounded electrode extending proximal the center electrode.

A fuel injector in an engine includes a spring cavity, a piston, a plunger, a spring, a fuel cavity, and a stop plate. The piston is hydraulically controlled to force the plunger down to compress fuel in the fuel cavity. However, under certain conditions, the plunger can contact the stop plate and/or the spring can become overcompressed. Both of these conditions can cause damage to the fuel injector. The present invention locates a pressure equalization channel in such a way as to dampen the motion of the piston to prevent this damage to the fuel injector.
