There is disclosed a photomask material comprising a substrate, and at least one layer containing mixture of a metal oxide and a metal nitride or at least one metal nitride layer provided on the substrate, and the photomask material may comprise a substrate and a mask layer provided on the substrate, the mask layer consisting of a layer containing a lower metal oxide and/or a lower metal nitride, and a layer containing a mixture of a higher oxide and a higher nitride of the same metal or a higher metal nitride layer of the same metal. The photomask material of the present invention exhibits excellent resistance to the cleaning solutions and can be used repeatedly.

There is presented a photomask blank provided with a transparent electroconductive layer, comprising a base having (a) a transparent electroconductive material coated thereon, and also having (b) a heavy metal oxide layer laminated on said material (a) in direct contact therewith or through an intermediary light-screening layer of the same heavy metal as in said layer (b).

A method of purging or cleaning ink passages of an ink jet recording device of the type in which a series of ink droplets is ejected from an orifice of a printing head towards a recording medium by the volume displacement of a pressure chamber provided in the printing head, including the steps of applying pressure required for purging to ink within an ink supply source, keeping a valve to open wide and forming a flow of ink in ink passages in one direction towards the orifice, thereby to remove bubbles and impurities present in the ink passages together with the discharged ink. Furthermore, in the present invention, there is provided a suction means associated with the ink jet recording device, which is used to obtain more excellent purging effect in combination with the above-mentioned steps.
