The invention relates to baked potatoes and, particularly, to convenient forms of baked potatoes having an optimally-baked flavor and texture which can be simply prepared for serving in any size portion with a minimum of effort. In one preferred form, the product will be in the form of baked potato pieces with the skin attached, preferably having a moisture content of from about 70 to about 75% and flavor and texture profiles characteristic of optimally baked potatoes. A process and an apparatus for preparing the potatoes and a packaged form are also provided. The process calls for freezing a baked potato and subdividing the potato into discrete pieces of a size of from about 0.5 to about 1.5 inches, preferably by means comprising at least one roller pair comprising a plurality of rotatably mounted blades with cutting edges angularly offset (FIG.) or diagonally-opposed, spaced cutting blades (FIG.).

Baked potato products and process for preparing same

An apparatus for providing a fluidized bed to effect the separation of a mixture of articles having at least a first density and a second density that is greater than the first density into separate groups. The apparatus includes an inclined trough which is supplied at an input end with either a fluidization medium, such as sand, or a mixture of articles from which a fluidized bed is formed by forcing gas upwardly through the bottom of the trough and through the fluidization medium or the mixture. In the case where a fluidization medium such as sand is used, the mixture of articles is introduced into the fluidized bed medium so as to be entrained therewith to effect separation as the articles travel in the direction of flow of the fluidized bed medium. Vertical oscillatory movement is imparted to the inclined trough to improve the separation and layering where the mixture of articles is fluidized, or to improve the density uniformity where a fluidization medium such as sand is fluidized as the bed.

Apparatus and method for improving density uniformity of a fluidized bed

A screening apparatus is provided for removing cartiledge, gristle and bone fragments from a ground moist product such as ground meat, the screening process comprising a form of extrusion between closely spaced helically corrugated revolving cylinders. The corrugations have sinusoidal contours with the contours of adjacent cylinders displaced 180 degrees from each other. The cylinders all revolve in the same direction so that spacing between the adjacent cylinders remains fixed and uniform while the advancing ridges of the corrugated surfaces move the retained cartiledge, gristle and bone fragments to one end of the cylinders to be exhausted from the apparatus.

Dynamic screener

A jet propulsion engine submergible in water for driving a water craft wherein a drive shaft is connected to an internal combustion engine for rotation thereof. A first turbine is mounted on the drive shaft for rotation therewith for providing a first high velocity stream of water axially through the propulsion engine. A propeller is journalled on the drive shaft adjacent to and downstream of the first turbine for rotation independently of the drive shaft. A second turbine is mounted on the drive shaft adjacent to and downstream of the propeller for rotation therewith for generating a second high velocity stream of water axially through the propulsion engine. The speed of the propulsion engine increases through the effects of the first and second high velocity streams of water for driving the water craft while the propeller becomes less effective until it is rendered free wheeling at cruising speeds of the water craft.
