A morphing structure includes a deployable aerodynamic origami structure with an outer covering having a plurality of creases, a tether attached to the deployable origami structure, and a light-responsive polymer disposed on one or more of the creases of the outer covering. The light-responsive polymer is configured to change shape when activated by a light and the deployable origami structure configured to change from a first shape to a second shape different than the first shape when the light-responsive polymer is activated. In some variations, the morphing structure also includes at least one heating element disposed on one or more of the creases of the outer covering and the at least one heating element is configured to heat the light-responsive polymer such that the shape of the deployable aerodynamic origami structure moves from the second shape to the first shape.

Systems, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to predicting anomalous operation of a device and an associated remaining useful life (RUL) estimation. In one embodiment, a method includes acquiring usage information about the operation of an electronic device. The method includes determining whether the usage information indicates the presence of an anomaly in the operation of the electronic device according to an anomaly model. The method includes, responsive to detecting the anomaly, determining a remaining useful life (RUL) for the electronic device according to a RUL model. The method includes providing the RUL estimate.

Systems, methods, and other embodiments described herein relate to charging a battery of an electric vehicle while the electric vehicle is hovering. In one embodiment, a method includes, responsive to determining that an electric vehicle does not include a receiver pad, inserting the receiver pad into the electric vehicle that is hovering in the air at a charging station. The method includes determining a space above a transmitter pad for the electric vehicle to hover based, at least in part, on a location and a size of the transmitter pad. The method includes charging a battery to a threshold value through the receiver pad.

The dynamic wireless power transfer transmission system can include a signal receiver, an array of coils of conductors, an array of switches, and a controller. The dynamic wireless power transfer reception system can include a signal transmitter and an array of coils of conductors. The signal transmitter can be configured to transmit, to the signal receiver, a signal. The signal can include information indicative of a size of the array of coils of conductors of the dynamic wireless power transfer reception system. The array of switches can be configured to connect an alternating current source to the array of coils of conductors of the dynamic wireless power transfer transmission system. The controller can control, according to the information, positions of switches of the array of switches.

A light apparatus includes an optical member, composed of an elastically deformable material, having a reflective surface to reflect light. The optical member moveable between a first state in which the reflective surface has a first structural shape, and a plurality of second states in which the reflective surface has a second structural shape different than the first structural shape. Elastically deformable position adjustment members are operable to move the optical member between the first state and the plurality of second states. The elastically deformable position adjustment members have one or more photochromatic regions that are moveable in response to exposure to UV light. Light sources are operable to selectively emit illuminating UV light in a direction that contacts the one or more photochromatic regions to thereby adjust an orientation of the optical member in a manner which changes a direction of light reflected by the optical member.

A morphing aerodynamic structure includes a body with an outer covering, a bridle attached to the body, and a light-response polymer disposed on at least one of the outer covering and the bridle. The light-responsive polymer is configured to change shape when illuminated with a laser such that at least one of an angle of attack, roll, pitch and yaw of the morphing aerodynamic structure is at least partially controlled without the use of a mechanical or pneumatic control unit.

A louvre system controls a flow of cooling air to a heat-generating element mounting inside a wing of an aircraft. The louvre system includes a louvre operably connected to the wing and structured to be rotatable to control airflow through an air intake of the wing into an interior of the wing. A louvre actuation mechanism is operably connected to the louvre and configured to control rotation of the louvre. A memory is communicably coupled to a processor and stores a louvre control module configured to autonomously control operation of the louvre actuation mechanism to control rotation of the louvre responsive to a temperature of a heat-generating element mounted in the wing interior.

Each of the plurality of first HMT particles have a core-shell structure with a core formed from a first high HMT material and a shell formed from a second HMT material that is different than the first HMT material. The plurality of second HMT particles are formed from a third HMT material that is different than the second HMT material and the plurality of LMT particles are formed from a LMT material. The LMT particles have a melting temperature less than a TLP sintering temperature of the TLP composition and the first, second, and third HMT materials have a melting point greater than the TLP sintering temperature.

A two-phase cold plate that includes a manifold body having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet each fluidly coupled to a fluid pathway housed within the manifold body and a vaporization structure housed within the manifold body such that the fluid pathway is disposed over the vaporization structure. The vaporization structure includes a cavity cover, a porous surface, a vapor cavity disposed between the cavity cover and the porous surface, and one or more porous feeding posts extending between the cavity cover and the porous surface. The one or more porous feeding posts fluidly coupled the fluid pathway with the porous surface of the vaporization structure and the porous surface includes a plurality of nucleation sites configured to induce vaporization of a cooling fluid and facilitate vapor flow into the vapor cavity of the vaporization structure.

Each vapor vent of the array of vapor vents is configured as a depression within the evaporator surface. A panel for wireless charging of an electric vehicle includes a metamaterial panel with a first shape and a second shape different than the first shape. The metamaterial panel is configured to be positioned between a transmitter coil of a wireless power transfer station (WPTS) and a receiver coil of the electric vehicle during wireless charging of the electric vehicle and change between the first shape and the second shape as a function of at least one of a size of the transmitter coil, a size of the receiver coil, and a distance between the transmitter coil and the receiver coil. A robot with at least one of a robotic arm and a robotic buggy can be included and the metamaterial panel can be coupled to the robot. And the robot is configured to position the metamaterial panel between the transmitter coil of the WPTS and the receiver coil of the electric vehicle during wireless charging of the electric vehicle.

A hybrid cooling system of an electric machine is contemplated. The hybrid cooling system includes a propeller assembly comprising a propeller, a housing comprising a stator and a rotor coupled to the propeller, and one or more capacitors, a gate drive electronics board, a cold plate, a substrate, power electronics coupled to substrate and the cold plate, a pump for pumping liquid coolant, and a heat exchanger. The liquid coolant from the pump contacts the gate drive electronics board, the cold plate, the substrate, and the power electronics for cooling the gate drive electronics board, the cold plate, the substrate, and the power electronics, and the propeller is configured to generate air that cools the stator and the rotor.

The second copper powder layer is deposited across the first copper powder layer, wherein the second copper powder layer is subsequently selectively fused via the fusing instrument. Additionally, a plurality of additional copper powder layers are deposited wherein each additional layer is deposited on the previous layer, wherein each of the additional copper powder layers is selectively fused with a predetermined structure.
