A carbody of a railcar includes: an underframe; a first member provided at one of vertical sides of a vertical center of the underframe, supported by the underframe, and absorbing collision energy; a second member provided at the other vertical side of the vertical center of the underframe, supported by the underframe, and contacting an obstacle when the first member is compressed by collision with the obstacle. In a case where the second member receives a reaction force from the obstacle when the first member is compressed by the collision with the obstacle, the second member transfers to the underframe a moment load that is opposite in a rotational direction to a moment load transferred to the underframe by the first member.

A collision energy absorbing device of a railcar includes: at least one outside plate constituting an outer tube having an axis extending in a car longitudinal direction; and at least one partition plate extending in the car longitudinal direction in an internal space surrounded by the at least one outside plate, the at least one partition plate fixed to the at least one outside plate and dividing the internal space. An end portion of the partition plate which portion is located at an end in a direction perpendicular to the axis is sandwiched by the at least one outside plate and constitutes a part of the outer tube.

The underframe includes: a pair of side sills; and a center sill located between the side sills and extending in a car longitudinal direction. A collision post is erected on a tip end of the center sill. A pillar is provided at the driver's cab window and extends so as to divide the driver's cab window. The pillar includes one end joined to the collision post and the other end joined to the roof bodyshell and couples the roof bodyshell and the collision post to each other.

A railcar collision energy absorbing device includes: an energy absorbing element crushed in collision; and a casing extending in a car longitudinal direction so as to accommodate the energy absorbing element. One end of the casing is supported by a main structure of a railcar. The casing is constituted by a plurality of tubular bodies whose overlapping portions are coupled to each other. The casing telescopically contracts in the collision by breaking of a coupling portion between the tubular bodies.

A crash energy absorber is provided at a front portion of a carbody of a railcar and configured to crush by a load from a front side to absorb crash energy. The crash energy absorber includes: a main absorbing portion extending in a front-rear direction; and a pair of sub absorbing portions respectively provided at upper and lower sides of the main absorbing portion. Each of the pair of sub absorbing portions is formed integrally with the main absorbing portion via breakable portions each extending in the front-rear direction.

Each of the guide members is provided on a railcar inner side of an attached flange portion of the underframe to which the couplers are attached. In energy absorbing structures in an entire train, a compression amount at an interface between cars at an end portion of a train is reduced and compression at an interface between cars at a center portion of the train is facilitated. In the structure, a plurality of cars (Ato A) are coupled to one another through couplers (Bto B), and energy absorbing structures (Sto S, Sto S) are provided between cars. An average compressive load corresponding to a value obtained by dividing an energy absorption amount of the energy absorbing structure by a maximum compression amount of the energy absorbing structures (Sto S, Sto S) is set smaller at an interface between cars at a center portion of the train than at an interface between cars on an outer side of the train (closer to an end portion).

A side structure included in a railroad car is provided with an window opening, and door openings formed on the longitudinally opposite sides of the window opening, respectively. The side structure excluding parts corresponding to the window opening and the door openings are divided into a plurality of sections. A first section extends vertically between the window opening and the door opening, a second section extends vertically between the window opening and the door opening, and a third section of a width substantially equal to that of the window opening extends under the window opening. Each of the sections has a core attached to the inner surface of an outer panel, and rim members having a substantially Z-shaped cross section and surround the core. An inner panel is attached to the core and the rim members so as to cover the inner surface of the core.
