Non-halogenated aqueous degreasing compositions-useful for removing inks and cleaning printed circuit boards comprising a three-component mixture of (1) an organic acid consisting essentially of an alkanoic acid, preferably a hydroxy-substituted alkanoic acid, (2) a straight chain alkanol having at least four carbon atoms or an alkyl ester derived from an unsubstituted or substituted alkanoic acid and a straight chain alkanol having at least four carbon atoms and (3) water.

Non-halogenated aqueous cleaning systems

A process is provided for separating high purity alkyl glycolate from a gaseous reaction mixture resulting from the catalyzed gas phase oxidation of alkyl glycolate. A hot solvent which is immiscible with water but selectively dissolves alkyl glycolate and alkyl glyoxylate is brought in contact with the gaseous reaction mixture, and water and alcohol vapors are removed from the hot solvent. The alkyl glyoxylate is removed from the solution by a first distillation and the alkyl glycolate and solvent are then separated in a second distillation.

The stabilization of aqueous or alkanolic solutions of choline and derivative of choline against discoloration on aging by the addition of an unsubstituted hydroxylamine salt to the choline solutions at levels of less than 1 percent.

An aldehyde in a mixture containing hemiacetals and hydrates of the aldehyde is purified by treating the mixture with an effective amount of microwave radiation to decompose the hemiacetals and hydrates. Liberated water and/or alcohol is immediately removed with an adsorbent.
