A control system is described for a railway convoy, particularly for the transport of goods, comprising wagons, a master locomotive and at least one slave locomotive. The railway convoy comprises a brake pipe which extends along the entire railway convoy. The master locomotive is arranged to control the pressure in the brake pipe and to send traction and/or braking commands to the slave locomotive by means of a communication channel. The at least one slave locomotive comprises a transceiver means arranged to receive the traction and/or braking commands and to re-transmit them to a traction control unit and to a brake control unit of the slave locomotive. The control system includes a safety unit arranged to prevent a relay valve from supplying the pneumatic brake pipe when at least one malfunction condition of the control system for a railway convoy occurs.

Disclosed is a rail braking system including a detection and storage device designed to receive first information representing the position of a device for locking a service brake piston, to receive second information representing the supply of a service brake pressure chamber with a pneumatic pressure agent, to deduce information representing the application of a parking brake from the first and second information, and to store the deduced information; as a result of which the information representing the application of the parking brake is kept even if the service brake pressure chamber is no longer supplied with the pneumatic pressure agent.

Rail vehicle braking system and braking method for a rail vehicle comprising such a system

The apparatus comprises a sensor for generating a vehicle load signal, weighting devices designed to supply a weighted pneumatic pressure as a function of the load signal, and first and second braking control apparatus, both coupled to the weighting devices and comprising respective relay valves which supply at their outlets respective braking pressures, modulated as a function of said weighted pneumatic pressure, to respective braking actuators associated with the wheels of a respective axle or of a respective bogie of the vehicle. The weighting devices comprise an electro-pneumatic drive assembly which is interposed between pneumatic pressure supply means and the drive inlet of the relay valves and an electronic weighting control unit which controls the drive assembly as a function of the load signal, so as to modulate in a predetermined way the pressure at the drive inlet of the relay valves.

Electro-pneumatic apparatus for controlling the braking of a railway vehicle

Valves for maintaining brake cylinder pressure in freight car brake equipment are provided. A valve includes a first diaphragm defining a first side and a second side, and a second diaphragm defining a first side and a second side. The valve further includes a first port for receiving pressure from one of an emergency reservoir or a control volume, the first port in fluid communication with the first side of the first diaphragm; a second port for receiving pressure from a brake pipe, the second port in fluid communication with the second side of the first diaphragm; and a third port for receiving pressure from a brake cylinder, the third port in fluid communication with the second side of the second diaphragm.

An electro-pneumatic braking system including a pneumatic pressure supply pipe, a generator for generating a vehicle load signal, a weighting system designed to supply a weighted pressure which defines a maximum braking pressure, limited as a function of the load signal, and braking control units connected to the weighting system and having a relay valve connected between the pipe and at least one brake cylinder, to cause the application to this cylinder of a controllable braking pressure, equal to or less than the weighted pressure. The weighting system includes an electro-pneumatic drive assembly, interposed between the pipe and the drive inlet of the relay valve and is connected to the pipe through a pressure limiter, and an electronic weighting control unit which controls this drive assembly as a function of the load signal, so as to modulate in predetermined ways the pressure at the drive inlet of the relay valve.

Electro-pneumatic braking system for a railway vehicle

A braking system for a train comprises a pneumatic brake pipe (BP), which extends along the train, and in which the pressure is controlled by a braking control apparatus (BCA) in the locomotive (L), and an electrical power supply and signal line (EL), which equally extends along the train, and which is linked to an electronic control unit (ECU) in the locomotive. Each wagon (W) in the train comprises a pneumatic brake valve (ELV) coupled with the brake pipe (BP) and suitable for applying to brake cylinders (BC) of the wagon (W) a brake pressure that is a function of a control pressure applied to a control input (CI) thereof; and an electro-pneumatic control assembly (EPC) including solenoid valve control devices (EVF, EVS), coupled with the brake pipe (BP) and with which a first pressure accumulator (DVE) is associated.

Braking unit for a train comprising a plurality of wagons for goods transportation

An electro-pneumatic braking control unit for a railway or tramway vehicle including a multi-layer structure with a plurality of superimposed plates, and in particular, an upper plate carrying and/or integrating a plurality of pneumatic, electro-pneumatic or electric components and having a plurality of connecting through holes and associated coupling channels arranged in its lower face, and a lower plate which has through holes for connection with corresponding apertures and/or coupling channels of the upper plate as well as associated coupling channels arranged in its upper face. The multi-layer structure may further include an intermediate plate having a plurality of connection passages in positions predetermined in dependence on the circuit to be formed.

Electro-pneumatic braking control unit for a railway or tramway vehicle

A system for controlling brakes on a rail or light rail motive power unit, in which the brakes are provided with a pneumatic braking system including a pneumatic main pipe and a pneumatic brake pipe. The system includes a control unit, manually operated actuating devices, a relay valve interposed between the pneumatic main pipe and the brake pipe, an electro-pneumatic control unit operable under the control of the unit to supply a variable braking control pressure, pneumatic back-up devices operable under the control of the actuating devices to supply a pneumatic back-up pressure which can be used to control the braking, and an enabling valve which can be switched between a normal operating condition and a back-up operating condition in which it can connect a control inlet of the relay valve selectively to the outlet of the electropneumatic unit or to the back-up devices.
