A composition of matter and method for administering a bioactive substance to the post-rumen portion of the digestive system of a ruminant substantially without introducing the substance to the rumen portion of the digestive system is provided. The composition of matter comprises particles which have a specific gravity between about 0.3 and 2.0, preferably between about 1.0 and 2.0. The particles comprises a core comprising bioactive substance; a hydrophobic coating essentially completely encapsulating said core in a quantity sufficient to essentially preclude introduction of bioactive substance into the rumen; and a surfactant applied to the surface of the hydraphobic coating in a quantity sufficient to ensure that said particles do not float on the rumen. The method comprises orally administering this composition of matter to a ruminant.

This invention relates to a sweetened chewing gum composition which contains L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine ethyl ester (APM) in amounts up to 1.5% by weight of the total product. The improvement comprises a gum which has a pH of between 5.0 and 7.0 so that the degradation of APM to diketopiperazine is minimized and the storage stability of the gum is greatly increased.

Chewing gums of improved sweetness retention

This invention relates to a product and process in which L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester is fixed in gum Arabic and/or the reaction product of a compound containing a polyvalent metallic ion, with an ungelatinized starch acid-ester of a substituted dicarboxylic acid whereby the decomposition rate of the L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine methyl ester when employed in a chewing gum system is greatly reduced.

This invention relates to a chewing gum composition which comprises gum base, sweetener, flavor and xylitol. The xylitol is contained in the gum in amounts less than 50% by weight of the total gum composition, the xylitol being effective to extend the storage stability of the gum.
