A bubble gum made with SBR (styrene butadiene) gum base has both its initial bite and bubble quality improved by coblending PIB (polyisobutylene) gum base with the SBR base at a weight ratio of SBR:PIB of between 2:1 and 6:1, and preferably 3:1 to 4:1. The bubble gum may be naturally sweetened or sugarless and preferably contains hydrogenated starch hydrolysate (HSH).

Composition and process for one-step chewing gum

Chewing gum products are structured in layered form with all the water sensitive components of the formulation being placed in a core layer and encased in outer layers of water insensitive materials.

Layered chewing gum with moisture impervious outer layer

A gum base is provided which has excellent film-forming properties and thus is particularly suited for use in a bubble gum. The gum base contains 50 to 80% ester gums and a unique fatty acid or fatty acid ester plasticizer, such as glycerol monooleate, and is free of conventional fillers. A bubble gum containing such gum base is also provided.

A chewing gum is provided having improved processability and softness. The improved properties are achieved through the use of a fatty acid or fatty acid ester softening agent, such as glycerol trioleate, in place of conventional softeners such as lecithin.

A sugarless chewing gum is provided wherein xylitol is employed as bulk filler and sweetener, and a hydrocolloid, such as xanthan gum or various alginates derived from giant kelp, is employed as a binder between the gum base and xylitol and as a humectant to facilitate retention of moisture in the gum.
