A radiation detector is formed from a plasma panel that includes a front substrate, and a back substrate that forms a generally parallel gap with the front substrate. X (column) and Y (row) electrodes are coupled by gas discharge events to define one or more pixels. Impedances are coupled to the X and Y electrodes, and a power supply is coupled to one or both types of electrodes. Discharge event detectors are coupled to the impedances.

Plasma panel based ionizing radiation detector

A plasma panel based ionizing-photon radiation detector includes an input and output substrate with gamma-ray to free-electron conversion occurring primarily on the input plate and a sealed discharge gas between the substrates. X-electrodes and Y-electrodes are formed on the two substrates and configured to form a plurality of pixels. Impedances are coupled to the X and Y electrodes and a power supply is coupled to the X-electrodes. Discharge event detectors coupled to impedances detect discharge events on the Y electrodes and at the pixel locations, which leads to the detection of ionizing-photon radiation.

Dual substrate plasma panel based ionizing radiation detector

A flat panel having at least one non-conductive substrate having a first conductor array on the surface thereof and a dielectric layer on said first conductor array having an exposed flat surface. A first predetermined pattern of vias external through the dielectric layer to pads on each conductor in the array. A second predetermined pattern of vias extend through the dielectric layer to further conductive pads, and an input and through-feed second conductor array is on the substrate with the dielectric layer covering the second predetermined pattern. A conductor material, preferably a gold frit, is in contact with the conductor at the bottom of each via, respectively, and partially filling same to a predetermined level below said exposed flat surface. An integrated circuit chip having an array of a conductive input/output bumps arranged to be congruent with the first and second predetermined patterns is clamped in contact with the conductor material in said vias with a predetermined pressure to make a gas tight contact joints.

Display device having integrated circuit chips thereon

A drive system is shown for AC plasma (ACP) gas discharge flat bistable matrix panels on which real-time video and computer graphics, both with pixel by pixel gray scale are displayed. The drive scheme increases scan speed, reduces complexity, and minimizes the circuitry required to operate the video and computer graphics on the ACP display by a unique application of standard high density memory IC architecture and panel drive waveform technique applying all of the drive voltages to the ACP panel from the row (Y) axis and only selective cancellation voltage from the column (x) axis.

AC plasma gas discharge gray scale graphics, including color, and video display drive system

An AC color plasma display system comprises an AC plasma display panel having transversely oriented first and second insulated electrode arrays defining a matrix of display pixels. Linear ribs are in substantially parallel alignment with one of the linear electrode arrays to form gas channels, respectively, aligned electrodes in one of the arrays. A plurality of phosphor layers are on the ribs, and a UV rich gas discharge medium is sealed in the channels. An interface circuit for receiving video signals from one of a selected plurality of video sources produces, in digital form, pixel data, pixel clock, and horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals from a gray scale drive system is connected between said interface circuit and AC plasma display panel. The gray scale drive system include blue, green and red color channels and pixel-by-pixel gray scale control of each color channel. The gray scale drive system includes circuits for supplying write, erase, and sustaining potentials to said electrode to arrays and perform the following operations: 1) supply said write potential to all said electrodes to cause all pixels to be in an &ldquo;on&rdquo; state, 2) supply said erase potential to selected ones of said electrodes to erase selected pixels and cause the selected pixels to be in an &ldquo;off&rdquo; state, and 3) supply a burst of sustaining potentials to the electrode arrays for predetermined number of cycles to cause the pixels in the &ldquo;on&rdquo; state to emit light for each sustainer cycle, and repeating operations 1, 2 and 3 a predetermined number of times.

Plasma display gray scale drive system and method

A novel drive system is described for AC plasma (ACP) gas discharge flat bistable matrix panels on which real-time video and computer graphics, both with pixel by pixel gray scale are displayed. The drive scheme increases scan speed, reduces complexity and minimizes circuitry required to operate the video and computer graphics gray scale images on the ACP display through: a) unique application of standard high density memory IC architecture, and b) unique panel drive waveform technique. Flicker is avoided with an interlaced framerate of 46 Hz and non-sequential pixel row scanning. The unique panel drive scheme allows high speed operation to avoid flicker in the ACP panel for real time gray scale video and graphic images. Because of the high speed addressing requirements, the panel waveform techniques apply all of the drive voltages to the ACP panel from the row (Y) axis and only selective cancellation voltage from the column (X) axis. This technique results in ground based data transfer from the memory circuits to the column driver ICs, and eliminates significant level shifting through multiple parallel isolation circuits such as transformers or optical couplers. Avoidance of isolation circuits in the X-axis allows higher speed transfer of data into column drivers. The panel addressing requirements for pixel-by-pixel gray scale is minimized through geometric accumulation of pixel on-time per frame. At least 64 levels of gray scale are provided in standard neon ACP displays with pixel rows of 256, 480 and 512, for example.
