A composite consumable food product in the form of a section of an extruded strand of a first foodstuff impregnated into a second foodstuff. Prior to extrusion of the strand in a twin screw extruder, the first foodstuff is a liquid or a pasty consumable substance, such as a syrup, while the second foodstuff is a plasticized consumable substance, such as a cereal base. The first and second foodstuffs are preferably processed in separate sections of the extruder before a taste or flavor perceptible amount of the first foodstuff is introduced into and uniformly mixed with the second foodstuff prior to extrusion through a die. The resultant extruded strand is typically cut into sections to obtain the final product.

Impregnated composite extrusion product

A process for manufacturing a composite consumable product by double extrusion, wherein a liquid or pasty consumable substance is prepared in a first section of a twin-screw extruder, a plasticizable consumable substance is cooked-extruded in a second section of the twin-screw extruder, wherein the first and second sections are separated dynamically, to provide at least one strand of a cooked-extruded mass that is cut into pieces. The present invention relates to a method for preventing agglomeration while drying sticky particles in a fluid bed. The method comprises supplying sticky particles to an upper surface of a perforated conveyor and advancing said sticky particles through the fluid bed, supplying drying air flow substantially upwards through the perforated conveyor to the sticky particles on it. While drying the particles exposing them substantially, from above, to a pulsing air flow so that they are caused to move and to break up agglomerates of sticky particles. This is done while controlling drying and pulsing air flow, pulsation, and drying air temperature. The invention also relates to a fluid bed preventing agglomeration while drying sticky particles.

A die for extrusion of an extrudate from an extruder has a tubular member, a hollowed distributor portion and a hollowed nozzle portion configured and arranged so that extrudate issuing from the die has two visible longitudinal components. The tubular member has three successive and integral portions wherein first and third portions are, in cross-section, continuous and wherein the second portion is, in cross-section, discontinuous. The first tubular member portion has an interior wall surface which, in cross-section, has radial projections and recesses therebetween so that the interior wall surface defines a shape which is an outline of a star-like shape, and the second tubular member portion has longitudinal openings which are in alignment with the first portion projections. The distributor portion surrounds the first tubular member portion to define a chamber and has an opening into the chamber, and the nozzle portion has a first end integral with the distributor portion and extends to the third tubular member portion to define a chamber extension and end enclosure.

Die for forming extrudate having two visible longitudinal components

A composite, co-extruded food product has an outer casing and an inner filling. The outer casing is based upon a textured meat or textured fish and has a moisture content of between 20% and 40%. The filling ingredient represents between 30% and 40% of the total volume of the product and may be a vegetable oil/fat, an animal oil/fat and/or a powdered yeast.

An extruder for extruding a foodstuff terminates in an extrusion head having a product outlet die and having a feed duct pipe for feeding a foodstuff filler material into the foodstuff extruded through the head so that the extruded foodstuff encases the filler material so that a foodstuff-encased product passes through the outlet die. A shaper is positioned for receiving the encased product directly from the die outlet and has an inner rotatable ring body mold and outer rotatable annulus molds, wherein the outer annulus molds are positioned about and off-center of and are rotatable with the ring mold so that upon rotation, the annulus molds and ring mold body converge for shaping the encased product and then the annulus molds separate from the shaped product. A cooling system is positioned for receiving the shaped product and cooling the shaped product.
