An X-ray inspection device includes a transport unit, an X-ray irradiation unit configured to irradiate an article with X-rays, an X-ray detection unit configured to detect the X-rays in each of a plurality of energy bands, an X-ray transmission image generation unit configured to generate a plurality of X-ray transmission images on the basis of the X-rays in each of the plurality of energy bands, and an inspection unit configured to inspect whether or not a foreign matter is present or absent in the article on the basis of a difference image between the plurality of generated X-ray transmission images. The inspection unit detects a first foreign matter having a higher specific gravity than the article using a first threshold value and detects a second foreign matter having a lower specific gravity than the article using a second threshold value different from the first threshold value.

Provided is a highly reliable X-ray inspection device having two line sensors, in which accurate inspection results can be obtained even when there is displacement of the mounting position of the line sensors. The X-ray inspection device is provided with a conveyor unit for conveying an article, an X-ray emitter, a first line sensor, a second line sensor, a detection unit, and a corrected-image generation unit. The X-ray emitter emits X-rays to the article conveyed by the conveyor unit. The first line sensor detects, in a low energy band, X-rays that have passed through the article. The second line sensor detects, in a high energy band, X-rays that have passed through the article. The detection unit detects positional displacement of the second line sensor with respect to the first line sensor in horizontal direction and vertical direction.

An inspection apparatus inspects a package group including a plurality of discrete packages that are successively connected in a chain. The inspection apparatus includes an irradiating component, a light receiving component, a generating component, an identifying component, an estimating component and a weight diagnosing component. The irradiating component is configured and arranged to irradiate inspection waves to the package group with the inspection waves being X-rays or terahertz waves. The identifying component is configured to identify a plurality of discrete package regions corresponding to the discrete packages from an inspection image generated by the generating component. The estimating component is configured to estimate one or more weight values respectively corresponding to one or more of the discrete package regions. The weight diagnosing component is configured to diagnose the package group as being abnormal in weight when any of the weight values falls outside a predetermined range.

An x-ray inspection apparatus includes a sample image obtaining unit, an ideal curve generating unit, a curve adjustment unit, and a mass estimation unit as a function block generated by a control computer. The sample image obtaining unit obtains 10 x-ray transmission images of sample inspected products each of whose mass is known in advance. The ideal curve generating unit generates a table based on a formula that indicates a relationship between the brightness of an area included in the x-ray transmission images and the estimated mass of the area. The curve adjustment unit refers to the input actual mass of each x-ray transmission image and adjusts the table such that the estimated mass approximates the actual mass. The mass estimation unit determines the estimated mass per unit area based on the post-adjusted table and adds up these masses to determine the total estimated mass of the product.

A mask area defining unit defines a region outside the boundary of the reduction area as a mask area, and the first contaminant detection unit performs an inspection for contamination in an inspection area inside the mask area defined by an inspection area defining unit.
