Techniques for linking a distance used during a reprojection operation with a focal length of a sensing system are disclosed. As a result, modifications to the focal length result in corresponding modifications to the distance. A focal length of the sensing system is adjusted. An image generated by the sensing system is accessed. A particular distance is selected based on the adjusted focal length of the sensing system. The distance is used to reproject the image.

Techniques for correcting a vertical angular image misalignment in stereoscopic images generated by an extended reality (ER) system are disclosed. A hologram is identified. This hologram is displayed in a scene of the ER system. A spatial frequency of the hologram is determined. A determination is made that the spatial frequency exceeds a spatial frequency threshold. The spatial frequency of the hologram is reduced until the spatial frequency is below the spatial frequency threshold. Such an operation results in a compensation being performed for a vertical angular image misalignment that exists between the stereoscopic images.

Techniques for correcting vertical angular image misalignment in extended reality systems

A method of operation of a display device for controlling brightness adaptation comprises (a) receiving a position signal that varies in dependence on a position of a fovea of an eye; (b) receiving a brightness signal that varies in dependence on brightness external to the display device; and (c) projecting a color image into the eye over a range of angles that varies in dependence on the position signal and on the brightness signal, such that when the brightness is below a predetermined threshold the color image is confined to the retinal target area.

A system for facilitating binocular vertical display misalignment correction based on vergence angle is configurable to determine a vertical fusional amplitude indicator associated with user operation of a stereoscopic display system, and, based on the vertical fusional amplitude indicator, determine one or more correction application attributes. The one or more correction application attributes indicate a manner of applying one or more display misalignment correction operations to align presentation of content in the stereoscopic display system. The system is also configurable to apply the one or more display misalignment correction operations to align the presentation of the content in the stereoscopic display system in accordance with the one or more correction application attributes, thereby effectuating display misalignment correction in a manner that mitigates user discomfort and/or user experience disruption.

Systems and methods for facilitating display misalignment correction based on vergence angle

Examples are disclosed that relate to systems and methods for correcting vertical misalignment in a binocular display system. One example provides a head-mounted display device, comprising a binocular display system comprising a left eye display and a right eye display, the binocular display system configured to display image content; a display misalignment detection system; and a controller. The controller is configured to receive a signal from the display misalignment detection system comprising information related to a vertical misalignment between the left eye display and the right eye display, analyze the image content to determine image content information, determine a vertical misalignment correction strategy based at least upon the image content information and the vertical misalignment, and based upon the vertical misalignment correction strategy, control the binocular display system to correct the vertical misalignment.

Vertical misalignment correction in binocular display systems

Techniques for triggering a correction to a binocular image misalignment in an ER system are disclosed. Triggering this correction is based on detected activity in a scene in which the ER system is operating. A first hologram is displayed. User activity is detected, but this activity is below a threshold level. A first correction algorithm is selected and is designed to achieve uninterrupted performance with respect to the first hologram. The first correction algorithm is triggered, resulting in correction of binocular image misalignment. Subsequently, second user activity is detected. This second user activity is associated with a second hologram. A second correction algorithm is selected and is designed to achieve accurate performance with respect to the second hologram. The second correction algorithm is executed, resulting in correction of the binocular image misalignment.

Binocular display misalignment correction

Techniques for determining a user's IPD are described. A first stimulus is displayed on a first display, and a second stimulus is displayed on a second display. A stimulus separation distance is a distance that exists between the first and second stimuli. The stimulus separation distance is progressively increased by progressively moving, in opposing directions relative to one another, the first and second stimuli. While that distance is being progressively increased, at least one of the user's eyes is tracked. While the distance is being progressively increased, a change in a rate of eye movement for the user's eye is detected. When the change is detected, a value for the stimulus separation distance is recorded. The recorded value is set as a baseline for the user's IPD.

Determining IPD by adjusting the positions of displayed stimuli

Techniques for facilitating calibration of an IPD for an ER system are disclosed. A current IPD setting for the ER system is determined. An object in a scene is selected. A first distance between the ER system and the object is determined. A hologram is generated, where this hologram includes at least one boundary region that corresponds to at least one boundary region of the object. The hologram is displayed in the scene. The hologram is displayed based on the current IPD setting for the ER system. User input adjusts the current IPD setting such that a new IPD setting is provided to the ER system. The hologram is displayed in the scene based on the new IPD setting. Based on the new IPD setting, the hologram is caused to align with the object, thereby calibrating the IPD setting.
