A peeling process and system comprising a primary peeling device; a sorting device arranged to sort product output from the primary peeling device into peeled product and partially peeled product; a secondary peeling device arranged to receive the partially peeled product output from the sorting device; and a peel control system to monitor the peel quality of product detected in at least one position after the primary peeling device and control the peeling system in response to same.

Automated peeling system

A steam peeling vessel for rotation about an internal axis of rotation, including at least one internal lifter having a longitudinal axis oriented at an oblique angle to the internal axis of rotation of the vessel. The vessel may include at least two internal lifters. The vessel may include a first lifter oriented at a first oblique angle to the axis of rotation, and at least a second lifter oriented at a second oblique angle to the axis of rotation.

Steam peeling pressure vessel

An agitator for a product peel removal system, the agitator comprising: a central axle having a plurality of outwardly projecting arms; and a product lifter at the distal end of at least one of said outwardly projecting arms; and an apparatus for product peel removal comprising: a drum having an inlet for receiving product, an outlet for dispensing of product; and a plurality of perforations through which removed peel may pass; at least one agitator arranged within said drum and rotatable relative to said drum for agitating the product passing between said inlet and outlet; and means for controlling the retention time of product within the rotatable drum independently from the rotation speed of the agitator.

Centrifugal product peel separation and removal apparatus

A valve () for enabling release of pressurized steam from a pressure vessel has a displaceable closure member () which is maintained in its closed disposition by exposure to the pressure of the steam within the pressure vessel. The closure member () is displaced between its closed disposition and an open disposition by a double-acting actuator (), suitably an air-driven piston/cylinder device, the closure member () being preferably mounted at one axial end of a spindle () extending between the closure member () and the actuator (). The closure member () is suitably mounted for substantially metal-to-metal contact with a valve seat portion (), without interposition of any sealing element, preferably for substantially vertical displacement between its closed and dispositions.

Self-sealing pressure release apparatus and product treatment system incorporating the apparatus

A valve body () for enabling release of pressurized steam from a pressure vessel, the valve body comprising: a steam inlet (), a steam outlet (), and an internal wall defining a flow path between said inlet and said outlet, wherein at least a portion () of said internal wall in a region opposed to the steam inlet is removable.

Exhaust valve

A steam peeling system has a rotatable pressure vessel () for steam treating and peeling product. The vessel is substantially spherical, having an oblong configuration with opposed flattened side surfaces. The pressure vessel has at least one internal lifter () for entraining and lifting the product relative to the axis of rotation of the pressure vessel () when it is rotated. The pressure vessel also at least one internal region () that is closed-off against ingress of steam during product treatment. This region () defines a steam saver. The system can include a batcher for delivering the product to be peeled to the vessel. The pressure in the vessel can be released on completion of a peeling operation. Arrangements can be included to minimize release of entrained solid matter or odors in the exhaust steam. A controller minimizes unproductive displacement of the pressure vessel and can control the rotation speed and direction.

Steam peeling system

A product-carrying unit side portions extending along two opposite regions for engagement with respective support features of a product treatment chamber. A floor region of the unit extends between the side portions and consists of an array of floor region portions with together define a discontinuous upper product-carrying surface of the unit. The surfaces are suitably defined by the upper surfaces of the ribs of the unit. The spaces between the top surfaces of the ribs provide access to the underside of product supported on the discontinuous product supporting surface of the unit and enable heat exchange contact between the heat exchange medium and the underside of the product. The floor region of the unit is shaped to define ducts through which flow of heat exchange medium is directed for contact with the underside of the product supported on the unit.
