A liquid crystal display (LCD) comprises a plurality of gate lines, a plurality of data lines, and switching elements each disposed in the proximity of one of intersections between the plurality of gate lines and the plurality of data lines. The LCD further comprises a plurality of pixel electrodes disposed over the gate lines and the data lines via an interlayer insulating film, wherein, when viewed from upside, that is, from the side of a gap between adjacent pixel electrodes toward the side of the gate line, the gap between adjacent pixel electrodes at least partially overlaps with the gate line, and a plurality of control electrodes each disposed under the gap between adjacent pixel electrodes and over the gate line, wherein, when viewed from upside, the control electrode covers the gate line.

Liquid crystal display with control electrodes for preventing lateral leak of electric field

In an active matrix type liquid crystal display device comprising a TFT having gate lines and data lines formed in a matrix manner and being connected to a source line, a contact hole for connecting the source line with a pixel electrode is formed in a position overlapping a disclination line. The contact hole is formed in a position overlapping a capacitance portion of the gate line. The gate line and the source line are provided to oppose to each other, and electrostatic capacitance is stored therebetween.

Liquid crystal display device and its manufacturing method

A CF on TFT type liquid crystal display and a method of manufacturing the same. The liquid crystal display has a plurality of parallel scanning lines, a plurality of parallel data lines which cross the scanning lines, thin film transistors each disposed in the proximity of an intersection between one of the scanning lines and one of the data lines, and pixel electrodes disposed in a matrix and each coupled with one of the thin film transistors. The light shield film is formed over areas including at least the thin film transistors but except over portions which become banks and hinder flow of developer for patterning the light shield film. As an embodiment, the light shield film can be formed along the data lines, and also partially along the scanning lines except a part of each portion of the scanning lines between adjacent data lines.

CF on TFT liquid crystal display having reduced dot defects

A liquid crystal display device is made up of a TFT substrate, an opposed substrate and a liquid crystal layer arranged between these substrates, in which the TFT substrate is provided with gate lines, data lines and TFT on its transparent insulative substrate, in addition, a passivation film is provided so as to cover them. A color filter is provided on the passivation film, and a black matrix is provided at corresponding area to above part of the TFT and to above part of the data line on the color filter. In addition, a first overcoat layer with film thickness of degree of 1 to 3 &mgr;m is provided so as to cover the black matrix. Further, a second overcoat layer with film thickness of approximate 0.5 &mgr;m is provided at the whole surface except for a contact hole. Furthermore, a pixel electrode is provided on pixel formation area on the second overcoat layer.

Active-matrix type liquid crystal display device having thick and thin overcoat layers layered over a black matrix

Band-shaped data lines are arranged in parallel with each other so as to cross address lines via a gate insulating film formed over the address lines. An upper insulating film is formed over the data lines, and pixel electrodes are formed on the upper insulating film. Storage capacitance section includes common electrode and storage capacitance electrode. The common electrode is extended from the address line of adjacent pixel region. The storage capacitance electrode sandwiches the gate insulating film with the common electrode to store capacitance therebetween. The storage capacitance electrodes and the pixel electrodes are connected to each other via conductive through hole piercing through the upper insulating film. Besides, the storage capacitance electrode, source electrode of the thin film transistor section and a wiring connecting them are integrally formed of the same metal films.

Liquid crystal display having storage capacitance electrodes and method of fabricating the same

A liquid crystal display apparatus has a pair of substrates opposing to each other and a liquid crystals sandwiched between the pair of substrates. One side of substrate is provided with gate lines and signal lines which approximately cross each other. TFTs are provided close to intersection portion of the gate line and the signal line. Pixel electrodes and common electrodes are provided at each pixel enclosed by the gate line and the signal line. Each of pixel electrodes and common electrodes has bent points more than one and is alternately formed in parallel with each other. Both the pixel electrode and the common electrode are made up of bent sections and projected sections projecting toward concave sections of opposite electrodes from convex side top sections of the bent sections. In the liquid crystal display apparatus, improvement of visual angle characteristics and response characteristics is planned in such a way that the projected section allows electric field close to the bent section to be stabilized, and allows electric field strength to be enhanced.

An active matrix type liquid crystal display includes an array of pixels each implemented by a combination of a thin film transistor, a pixel electrode connected through the thin film transistor to a signal line, a common electrode spaced from said pixel electrode and liquid crystal filling the gap between the pixel electrode and the common electrode, and spacers are inserted between a protective insulating layer over back channel regions of the thin film transistors and a planarization layer, wherein the spacers are conductive and fixed to a certain potential level in such a manner as to eliminate the conductivity from the back channel regions.

An in-plane switching mode LCD panel has a plurality of scanning lines each supplied with a scanning signal at both ends of the each of scanning lines. A common terminal connected to the common electrode for the pixels and a block of scanning terminals to form a terminal block for achieving a uniform driving voltage among the pixels, thereby preventing cross-talk between the pixels and a achieving a uniform driving voltage among the pixels.
