A registration aid for medical images obtained from an examination subject respectively with different imaging modalities at separated points in time, has a carrier adapted to be reproducibly applied to an examination subject at separated points in time at a substantially identical position on the examination subject at each of the separated points in time, and at least one landmark provider carried by the carrier, the landmark provider providing a first landmark visible in a first of the imaging modalities and a second landmark, different from the first landmark, visible in a second of the imaging modalities. The landmark provider provides the first and second landmarks with a fixed spatial relation relative to each other to allow contents of an image obtained with the first of the imaging modalities to be brought into registration with contents of an image obtained with the second of the imaging modalities, with the carrier being applied to the examination subject while each of the images is obtained.

A system for infusing medicine into the body of a patient includes an implantable infusion apparatus containing a dosing unit with a reservoir for the medicine and a medicine delivery pump for pumping doses of the medicine from the reservoir into the patient. The infusion apparatus also includes a sensor for sensing a parameter of the patient for controlling the dosing of medicine according to the sensed parameter. The dosing unit and the sensor are galvanically separable and are each provided with separate telemetry communication units for communication with an external programmer/controller. The external programmer/controller includes telemetry communication units for selectable communication with the dosing unit or the sensor or both simultaneously. The telemetry communication units of the external programmer/controller, the dosing unit and the sensor are constructed for bi-directional communication between the external controller and each one of the dosing unit and the sensor.

A radiography apparatus with which x-ray shadowgraphs are produced has a detector array in the form of a line or strip, and an x-ray radiator which is moved in a direction perpendicular to the line direction of the detector array for scanning a measuring field from different directions. The detector array accordingly receives x-radiation proceeding through the measuring field from different directions. A screen or slotted diaphragm having diaphragm shafts directed onto the detector array is disposed between the x-ray radiator and the measuring field, and blanks out x-radiation which is not useful for generating the shadowgraph image.

In the apparatus, a signal generator generates a low-voltage signal having an energy content sufficient for generating the shock wave, and a pulse-shaping network, connected between the signal generator and the shock wave source, as a transfer function which shortens the signal duration of the low voltage signal from the signal generator so that the low-voltage signal is converted into a high voltage pulse suitable for driving the shock wave source. An x-ray diagnostics installation has a solid-state image transducer with a layer whose electrical resistance is dependent on the intensity of incident radiation from an x-ray source, and an electro-luminescent layer in contact therewith which converts the resistance into a corresponding brightness value. Due to the decay time of the electro-luminescent layer, an image will be temporarily stored in the solid-state image transducer after the x-ray source has been deactivated. This temporarily stored image is read-out, after deactivation of the x-ray source, by a scanner for converting the brightness of the picture elements of the electro-luminescent layer into corresponding electrical signals. These signals are supplied to a data acquisition and processing system, which generates an image for display.

A catheter locatable with a non-ionizing field, such as an electromagnetic or acoustic field, has a transmitting or receiving antenna for the relevant field at its tip. Receiving or transmitting antennas for the non-ionizing field are attached to a patient in which the catheter is disposed. A receiver or transmitter is connected to these antennas, and converts the received field waves into electrical locating or image signals. The location of the catheter tip is then portrayed on a display combined with an image of the blood vessel structure acquired in a different manner, such as by x-ray imaging.

A medical examination installation for generating images of a patient for visual display has a mechanical oscillator which vibrates at least a portion of the patient, of which an image is to be obtained, during the exposure time. The image is obtained with a pick-up device at an image frequency, and the mechanical vibration may be matched to, or differ from, the image frequency. The image is then subjected to image subtraction techniques, or selective filtering, which permits body parts which differ in terms of mechanical vibration properties from the surrounding tissue, for example calculi, to be clearly imaged, particularly the borders of those body parts.

A medical installation for examining a patient irradiates at least a portion of the patient with an examination field, and detects the attenuated field and generates an image therefrom. During exposure of the patient to the examination field, a contrast agent injector is operated to intermittently inject contrast agent into the patient at a selected frequency. An x-ray diagnostics installation for subtraction angiography has an image memory connected to an output of an x-ray image intensifier video chain which has a number of addresses for storing individual x-ray video signals obtained during a dynamic body cycle of a patient under observation. A differencing unit receives stored signals from the image memory as well as current video signals and substracts those signals to form a superimposed image. Entry and readout of signals to and from the image memory is under the command of a control unit which is connected to the patient through, for example, an EKG circuit for identifying selected occurrences in the body cycle under observation. Entry and readout of data from the image memory is thereby controlled in synchronization with the selected occurrences in the cycle.
