Methods and systems enable reuse of water in processing of animals into food. In one method, water used in processing of animals into food is received. The water is treated so as to convert the water into a treated from capable of being reused in the processing of the animals into food. The treating includes reducing the amount of solid particles in the water and adding gas to the water. The treated water is provided to be used in the food processing.

Water reuse in food processing

Various food processing methods and a food processing system minimize microbial growth while an animal, such as a chicken, is processed into food. During processing, temperature of an animal carcass and atmosphere surrounding the carcass are controlled by spraying gases and a mixture of ozone and water on the carcass, directing the gases through a passage in a wall to cool a processing area, and flowing the gases into atmosphere surrounding the carcass. Preferably, the gases include ozone and cryogenic gases recycled from a cryogenic freezer. The system uses a reduced amount of fresh water by recycling water used during food processing.

Food processing method

The present invention relates to a filter unit, and a filtering system using the filter unit. The filter unit includes a housing having a longitudinal axis and an inlet and outlet for fluid containing solid contaminants and a back-flush inlet and back-flush outlet for cleansing fluid. This housing contains a substantially cylindrical filter element which has a longitudinal axis coincident with the longitudinal axis of the housing. The filter element has disposed within it a conduit, adapted to be opened to atmospheric discharge, having a longitudinal axis coincident with the longitudinal axis of the filter element. The conduit also has disposed along its surface cleansing members, which extend from the conduit to the filter element and have apertures to allow the cleansing fluid to flow through the members and into the conduit. The filter unit rotates the conduit and/or the filter element about its longitudinal axis and detects when the degree of contamination of the filter unit in service reaches a level at which the flow of fluid containing solid contaminants through the filter unit drops below an effective level. The filter unit also closes the inlet and outlet for fluid containing solid contaminants and opens the inlet and outlet for cleansing fluid to atmospheric discharge when the degree of contamination reaches that level.

High volume self-cleaning filter and method of cleaning same

High volume self-cleaning filter

A process for cleaning the sterilizing containers in which the interior surfaces of a container are subjected to a high power spray of ozonated wiater so as to remove contaminants from the surface and kill yeasts, molds and bacteria which may be beneath the surface. In the case of wooden vessels the process may be carried out so as to remove a veneer of wood from the surface.

An apparatus and method for sterilizing and chilling animal carcasses is provided comprising a tank for holding water, a means for cooling water in the tank, piping for carrying contaminated water out of the tank, a means for injecting ozone into the water of the apparatus, a means for purifying contaminated water in the piping, piping for returning purified water back to the tank and a means for decomposing gaseous ozone which escapes from the water in the tank before the gas is liberated into the atmosphere. The ozone destroys all forms of harmful microorganisms in the carcasses and the water. Because the water of the system is sterilized it can be disposed of easily.
