This invention relates to novel probiotic Bifidobacteria strains, particularly,strains, and their use as probiotic, and food products, feed products, dietary supplements and pharmaceutical formulations containing them. The bacteria are suitable for the treatment of obesity, diabetes, and related conditions.

A method in which a microorganism operational taxonomic unit (OTU) in a sample is defined based on a DNA sequence of a system generation information gene of microorganism in the sample. In the method, qualified sequence segments are obtained by means of processing and reading of an original sequence; the segments are sorted according to a relative abundance value of each segment; and only the qualified sequences with the high abundance values are used to obtain the temporary OTU. The qualified sequences with the low abundance values are reallocated; and the qualified sequence can be distributed to the proper temporary OTU respectively when a sequence similarity degree between the qualified sequence and an OTU sequence reaches at least 97%. The present disclosure also provides a sequence-assisted microorganism separation method.

Non-invasive methods for monitoring the effect of an agent for treating colorectal cancer, comprising (1) collecting fecal samples from healthy subjects, subjects having precancerous lesions, and subject having precancerous lesions and being treated with an anti-cancer agent; (2) isolating total microbial genomic DNA from the fecal samples to provide total microbial genomic DNA; (3) comparing the total microbial genomic DNA using fingerprint spectrum analysis; (4) identifying key fingerprint bands correlated with the effect of the anti-cancer agent; (5) identifying key microorganisms associated with the key fingerprint bands; (6) designing microbial sequence-specific primers and probes; and (7) determining the quantitative differences of the key microorganisms in fecal samples to identify an indicator microorganism for monitoring the effect of the anti-cancer agent.
