A shellfish extract concentrate is prepared by subjecting an extract of a shellfish (exclusive of oyster) having a solid concentration not higher than 30% by weight to an adsorption purification treatment with an adsorbent composed mainly of a water-insoluble inorganic magnesium compound, which has a specific surface area of at least 50 m.sup.2 /g, and concentrating the refined liquid in a substantially non-oxidizing atmosphere. In this shellfish extract concentrate, black and blackish brown coloring components are not contained, and flavor components and nutrients are not substantially lost. Accordingly, this shellfish extract concentrate is excellent in taste, flavor and hue.

A decolorized oyster extract concentrate is formed by an adsorption purification treatment using a specific inorganic lamellar magnesium phyllosilicate compound and a concentration treatment. Coloring components can be effectively removed without substantial reduction of the contents of taste components and nutrients. The decolorized oyster extract concentrate is very valuable as a seasoning or healthy food.

A crystalline zinc silicate mineral of the sauconite, hemimorphite or willemite type is prepared by subjecting an acid-treated product of a clay mineral and an oxide or hydroxide of zinc or a compound capable of forming this oxide or hydroxide under reaction conditions to a hydrothermal treatment. This crystalline zinc silicate mineral has a fine and uniform particle size and is excellent in the pigmenting characteristics.

An oxide or hydroxide mixture or coprecipitate having a three-component oxide composition comprising 5 to 45 mole % of SiO.sub.2, 35 to 65 mole % of ZnO and 0 to 60 mole % of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 is heated in the presence of water to form a crystal of the fraipontite type. The obtained synthetic mineral has a fraipontite type crystal structure and has a high whiteness and a large specific surface area. For example, this synthetic mineral is valuable as a color developer for a leuco dye.

Disclosed is a process for the preparation of a zeolite slurry being excellent in either the static stability or the dynamic stability and having a good flowability, which comprises neutralizing an aqueous cake or slurry containing water and zeolite in such a state that both are substantially inseparable from each other by filtration, with an inorganic or organic acid or an acid anydride or acidic salt thereof so that the pH value of the zeolite slurry at the time of completion of addition of said acid, acid anhydride or acidic salt is in the range of from 9.5 to 12 and the pH value of the zeolite slurry in the stationary state after addition of said acid, acid anhydride or acidic salt is in the range of from 11.3 to 12.7, adding a water-soluble or water-dispersible organic polymeric dispersant in an amount of at least 0.1% by weight based on the anhydrous zeolite to the neutralized zeolite slurry, and subjecting the resulting slurry to highly shearing stirring.

Disclosed is a filler for a heat-sensitive recording paper comprising finely divided amorphous silica having a BET specific surface area of 10 to 100 m.sup.2 /g and a bulk density of 0.14 to 0.30 g/cc, said finely divided amorphous silica having such a secondary particle size distribution that secondary particles having a size smaller than 4 microns, as measured by the centrifugal precipitation method, occupy at least 90% by weight of the total particles. This filler is excellent in the effects of preventing the background coloration, improving the lubricating property, preventing the adhesion of scum and improving the image density.
