A vehicle restraint for preventing a vehicle, such as a truck, from accidentally pulling away from a loading dock during a loading operation. The vehicle restraint comprises a mounting frame mounted on the front vertical surface of the loading dock and a slide is mounted for movement on the mounting plate and is biased to an upper position. An inclined cam member is pivoted to the upper portion of the outer end of the slide and extends downwardly and outwardly from the slide and the lower end of the cam member is pivotally connected to the mounting frame via a link of fixed length. When a truck backs toward the loading dock, an abutment, such as an ICC bar, at the rear end of the truck, will engage the inclined cam member, wedging the slide downwardly against the force of the biasing member, and the ICC bar will engage a notch located in the upper edge of the slide to block outward movement of the truck from the loading dock. To release engagement of the ICC bar from the notch, a release bar is moved upwardly into engagement with the ICC bar, thereby driving the slide downwardly against the force of the biasing member to release the ICC bar and enable the truck to pull away from the dock.

Truck actuated vehicle restraint having a pivotable inclined surface

A vehicle restraint for preventing a vehicle, such as a truck, from accidentally pulling away from a loading dock during a loading operation. The vehicle restraint comprises a mounting plate mounted on the front vehicle face of the loading dock and a slide is mounted for movement on the mounting plate and is biased to an upper position. The slide has an inner end pivotally connected to the mounting plate and has an upper surface formed with a notch or recess. The outer surface of the slide slopes downwardly and outwardly at an angle to the horizontal. When a truck backs toward the loading dock, an abutment, such as an ICC bar at the rear end of the truck, will engage the inclined outer surface and wedge the slide downwardly against the force of the biasing member, and the ICC bar will then engage the notch located in the upper surface of the slide. The downward wedging action will pivot the slide upwardly about the mounting frame to progressively decrease the angle of the outer surface with relation to the horizontal. To release engagement of the ICC bar from the notch, a release bar is moved upwardly into engagement with the ICC bar, thereby driving the slide downwardly against the force of the biasing member to release the ICC bar and enable the truck to pull away from the dock.

Truck actuated vehicle restraint having a pivotable slide

An improved vehicle restraint for preventing movement of a vehicle such as a truck away from a loading dock during a loading operation. The vehicle restraint includes a guide frame mounted on the front face of a loading dock and a vehicle restraining device is movable on said guide frame from a lower storage position to an upper operative position where it engages the ICC bar on a truck. A biasing mechanism serves to bias the restraining device upwardly to the operative position while a power operated drive mechanism acts to drive the restraining means downwardly to the storage position. The restraining device includes a slide or carriage that moves on the guide frame and a hook that is pivoted to the slide. A linkage connects the frame and the hook in a manner such that the force of the biasing device will not only move the slide upwardly on the guide frame but will also pivot the hook upwardly relative to the slide.

Vehicle restraint using both linear and pivotal movement

A vehicle restraint to prevent a truck, or other vehicle, from accidentally pulling away from a loading dock during a loading operation. The vehicle restraint includes a pair of spaced vertical guide tracks mounted on the front face of the dock and a slide is mounted for movement within the tracks. The slide has an extension that extends outwardly from the dock between the guide tracks and a restraining member, such as a hook, is pivotally connected to the extension about a generally vertical axis, so that the restraining member can be pivoted from a storage position, where the restraining member is generally parallel to the front face of the dock to an operating position where the restraining member extends outwardly from the dock. The restraining member is formed with a notch or recess in its lower surface, which is adapted to engage the ICC bar at the rear of the truck. In operation the restraining member is pivoted from the storage position to the operative position and dropped downwardly by gravity into engagement with the ICC bar to thereby prevent the truck from accidentally pulling away from the loading dock.

A vehicle restraint for preventing a vehicle such as a truck from accidentally pulling away from a loading dock during a loading operation. The vehicle restraint comprises a mounting plate mounted on the front vertical face of the loading dock and a slide is mounted for movement on the mounting plate and is biased to an upper position. The slide is provided with an angular front surface that is inclined downwardly and outwardly. When a truck backs toward the loading dock, an abutment, such as an ICC bar at the rear end of the truck, will engage the inclined surface, wedging the slide downwardly against the force of the biasing means and the ICC bar will then be received within a recess or notch located in the upper edge of the slide. To release engagement of the ICC bar from the notch, a release bar is moved upwardly into engagement with the ICC bar, thereby driving the slide downwardly against the force of the biasing means to release the ICC bar from the notch and enabling the truck to pull away from the dock.

Vehicle restraint

An incinerator for burning waste material includes an outer steel housing having a refractory liner that defines a combustion chamber. A series of channels are secured to the inner surface of the housing and provide vertical air flow passages. The lower ends of the passages are open to the atmosphere, while the upper ends are connected to a plenum and air is drawn through the passages by a blower to thereby preheat the air and cool the outer housing. A portion of the preheated air is directed to the stack for secondary combustion purposes, while a second portion of the preheated air is returned through vertical passages in the end of the housing to a pair of lower plenums and then introduced into the lower end of the combustion chamber for primary combustion purposes. The incinerator also has an improved feed assembly for feeding waste material to the combustion chamber, which includes a hopper, a triple hydraulic cylinder and a ram movable within the hopper. An ash removal rake is incorporated to remove ash from the lower portion of the combustion chamber. The rake is an open bottom casing which fills as the rake moves into the chamber. A door is then closed as the rake is withdrawn from the chamber, thus carrying a quantity of ash out of the chamber.

Incinerator

An improved counterbalancing mechanism for the ramp of a dockboard. The ramp is hinged at its rear edge to the frame of the dockboard and is adapted to be pivoted between a generally downwardly inclined position and an upward inclined position by a counterbalancing spring assembly. The counterbalancing spring assembly includes a first link pivotally connected to the underside of the ramp and a second link pivotally connected to the frame. The two links are connected together and are disposed in an acute angle relationship when the ramp is in the downwardly inclined position. One end of an extension spring is connected to the frame, while the opposite end of the spring is connected to one of the links. When the ramp is in the maximum downwardly inclined position, the spring is in a fully tensioned condition and when the holddown mechanism of the dockboard is released, the force of the spring will move the links toward an in-line position. The links are arranged so that the counterbalancing moment will slightly exceed the moment of the ramp as the ramp is pivoted, and at the elevated position of the ramp, the spring will be fully relaxed.

An energy recovery system for an incinerator. Hot flue gases from the incinerator are discharged into a vertical stack and the lower end of the stack is connected through an auxiliary conduit to a heat exchanger, such as a steam or hot water boiler. An induced draft fan draws the hot flue gases through the conduit and boiler to generate steam or hot water and a damper is located within the conduit. A fuel burner is connected in the conduit and operates to supply heat to the boiler during periods when the incinerator is not operating. A first flow sensing mechanism is located in the conduit upstream of the boiler, while a second flow sensing mechanism is positioned in the stack downstream of the connection of the stack and the conduit. In the incinerator mode of operation, the second flow sensing mechanism controls the damper in a manner to obtain a substantially zero flow of waste gas through the stack to the atmosphere to insure that all of the waste gas from the incinerator is directed through the conduit to the boiler. During periods when the incinerator is not operating, the burner mode of operation is established and the first flow sensing mechanism controls the damper to obtain substantially zero flow of gas upstream of the burner so that all of the heat from the burner will be directed to the boiler.

Energy recovery system for an incinerator

A liquid waste feeding system to be used in conjunction with a solid waste, pyrolytic incinerator. The liquid waste is atomized and injected into the upper end portion of the pyrolysis chamber of the incinerator through a retractable nozzle assembly. The nozzle assembly is automatically extended into the pyrolysis chamber during periods when the liquid waste is to be supplied to the incinerator, and is retracted to a location outside of the chamber when liquid waste is not being supplied. The feed rate of the liquid is controlled by the incinerator stack temperature and modulates between two temperature set points. At the upper set point, the feed rate decreases on temperature rise, which will occur when burning liquids with high BTU values. At the lower set point the feed rate decreases on temperature drop, to insure that minimum combustion temperatures are maintained in order to achieve complete burnout in the incinerator thermal reactor.
