A coating thickness measuring instrument has a probe for measuring the thickness of a coating applied to a substrate and producing an output relating to the measured thickness; a memory storing calibration data; and a processor arranged to process the output produced by the probe, together with calibration data stored by the memory, and produce a coating thickness measurement. The memory stores at least two sets of calibration data, each set associated with a different surface profile value and a user may select the set of calibration data to be used by the processor according to the surface profile of the substrate on which a measurement is to be made. This enables a user to make coating thickness measurements on substrates with at least two different, known, surface profiles without having to calibrate the instrument specifically for those surfaces.

Coating thickness measuring instrument and methods

A reverse-acting pressure relief device () is provided comprising buckling-control structures, namely pocket regions () and belt regions () having differing material thicknesses. The pocket regions () generally comprise areas of reduced material thicknesses and serve to weaken the structural integrity of the bulged section () of device () so that reversal can be initiated at lower pressures. Belt regions () generally comprise areas of enhanced mechanical properties that assist with reversal control and opening of bulged section () thereby ensuring complete opening of the device ().

Reverse-acting rupture disc with buckling-control feature

A reverse-acting rupture disc () having a laser-defined reversal initiation feature () is provided in the bulged section () of the disc. The reversal initiation feature comprises at least a first lased area () that has a reduced thickness relative to rest of the bulged section. A second lased area () may also be provided within the margins of the first lased area. The second lased area has a depth that is greater than the depth of the first lased area. A line of weakness () may be formed in the bulged section that functions to direct reversal of the bulged section toward a particular area of the disc, such as line-of-opening recess ().

An apertured rupture disc support member () is provided for use in a rupture disc assembly (). A rupture disc () comprising one or more embossed segments () that are complemental with the support member apertures () is also disclosed. The pressure relief assembly () is particularly suited for use in sanitary pressure relief applications.

Pressure relief device having support member with recessed areas

A burst indicator () for use in a rupture disc assembly () is provided. The burst indicator () comprises a non-electrically conductive material having an outer annular portion () and an inner section () joined to the outer portion by a pair of bridge features (). A circuit comprising electrically conductive segments () is located on the burst indicator () and can be used to monitor the integrity of the rupture disc (). One electrically conductive segment () is located on the outer annular portion (), and another electrically conductive segment () extends across the bridge features () and inner section (). Upon rupture of the rupture disc (), one of the bridge features () carrying an electrically conductive segment () severs thereby opening the circuit.

A method is disclosed for a test and data retrieval method that not only provides an illustration of an object paint condition but also provides a linear numerical data point, that gives the user a quantifiable number to determine the extent of body work and over paint for a painted object that is being appraised, up for bid, or sold in a private treaty sale or auction.

Method of quantifying paint and bodywork on automobiles and other painted objects using coating thickness gauges

A combination spirometer or peak flow meter and nebulizer system is provided. Utilization of common elements, on a time sharing basis is accomplished by the combined instrumentation. The sharing of a common chamber by a peak flow meter and a nebulizer system is controlled by valves operated in response to phases of the respiratory process of a patient. With this combination vaporized medication is provided to a patient for inhalation during the inhale phase of the respiration cycle and the effectiveness of the inhaled medication is monitored by measuring the rate of flow of the breath exhaled during the exhale phase of the same respiratory cycle.
