An apparatus and a method automatically cook food, for example, a hulled grain such as buckwheat, thereby conveniently providing the uniform and optimal cooking quality of the food to a user. The cooking apparatus includes a cooking cavity that contains food to be cooked and water therein, and a heating unit that heats the food and the water. The cooking apparatus further includes a control unit operated in such a way as to heat the food and the water at a preset initial output of the heating unit, first to reduce the output of the heating unit to a first reduced output and allow the heated high temperature water to be absorbed into the food after a first preset time has elapsed, and second, to reduce the output of the heating unit to a second reduced output and cook an inside of the food using the high temperature water absorbed into the food after the water has simmered.

Apparatus and method of automatic cooking of buckwheat

A method and apparatus for controlling the operation of a microwave oven, including a magnetron generating microwaves and a sensor sensing the state of air in the cooking cavity of the oven. The cooking period is determined by searching one of two data tables in accordance with a determination result after determining whether food to be cooked is included in ascending slope-type foods or descending slope-type foods. The control method and apparatus remarkably reduces a deviation in the cooking periods by distinguishing the ascending slope-type foods from the descending slope-type foods. The control method and apparatus allows the microwave oven to appropriately cook food for a period of time which substantially matches a practically required cooking period, thus providing a good cooking result.

A magnetron includes semi-circularly shaped electric field adjusting grooves provided on surfaces of outer ends of vanes brought into contact with an inner surface of a positive polar body to make distribution of an electric field uniform on the surfaces of the outer ends of the vanes. Accordingly, the electric field becomes uniform by the electric field adjusting grooves provided on the surfaces of the outer ends of the vanes, so that generation of undesirable harmonics is suppressed.

In accordance with the present invention, even though a single permanent magnet is provided, magnetic flux density is rendered uniform across an activating space, so that the volume and parts of the magnetron are reduced and the curtailment of manufacturing costs is realized.

A cooking apparatus includes a cooking cavity to accommodate food to be cooked therein and a rotating unit to rotate while supporting the food. A magnetron includes a positive polar cylinder, a plurality of vanes, a filament, upper and lower shields, and upper and lower pole pieces. The vanes are disposed in the positive polar cylinder to constitute a positive polar section. The filament is disposed on an axis of the positive polar cylinder to define an activating space. The upper and lower shields cover a top and bottom of the filament, respectively. The upper and lower pole pieces are disposed to induce magnetic flux into the activating space. The upper shield preferably has a diameter ranging from 6.95 mm to 7.10 mm. Additionally, the lower shield preferably has a diameter ranging from 6.95 mm to 7.10 mm.

Magnetron for microwave ovens

A microwave oven includes a magnetron to generate microwaves and a cooking chamber to contain food to be cooked using the generated microwaves. The microwave oven further includes a humidity detector to detect moisture formed from the food being cooked. The humidity detector is provided at air outlets of the cooking chamber, and includes first and second electrodes formed on a board to be space apart from each other at a predetermined interval to form a gap therebetween. The control unit of the microwave oven controls the cooking operation of the microwave oven according to the output of the humidity detector.

The water level sensor includes a reference electrode comprised of a plurality of electrode plates to detect electric conductivity of water filling a space between the electrode plates of the reference electrode. A measuring electrode is comprised of a plurality of electrode plates, which are extended along a length of a water tub to be longer than the electrode plates of the reference electrode and spaced apart from the electrode plates of the reference electrode to detect electric conductivity of water filling a space between the electrode plates of the measuring electrode.

Water level sensor

A polymer-type humidity sensor for use in a microwave oven and which has a polymer structure which includes a rubber and a predetermined amount of carbon, and a pair of electric terminals connected to the polymer structure. The polymer-type humidity sensor of the present invention has a rapid response time, durability, excellent adherence to terminals, low hysteresis, and exhibits stability to exposures of high temperatures and high relative humidity.

A microwave oven includes a humidity sensor, a main-outlet and a sub-outlet formed at opposite sidewalls of a cooking cavity such that the cooking cavity communicates with the atmosphere through the main-outlet and the sub-outlet. The sub-outlet is installed in a machine room adjacent an air inlet side of a cooling fan. The humidity sensor is installed in the machine room at a position adjacent to the sub-outlet and senses the humidity of air inside the cooking cavity by sensing the humidity of a part of the air discharged from the cooking cavity through the sub-outlet. The surface of the humidity sensor is less likely to be easily contaminated by the air exhausted from the cooking cavity, moisture deposited on the surface of the humidity sensor is quickly evaporated so that the humidity sensor performs its desired operation even when the microwave oven sequentially performs several cooking processes.

A magnetron for use in, for example, microwave ovens, includes a positive polar cylinder, a plurality of vanes, and large-diameter and small-diameter strip rings. The vanes constitute a positive polar section, along with the positive polar cylinder. The large-diameter and small-diameter strip rings are disposed on an upper portion and a lower portion of the vanes, respectively, to alternatively and electrically connect the vanes to one another. The inside and outside diameters of the large-diameter strip ring are in a range of 17.1 mm to 18.01 mm and 18.6 mm to 19.6 mm, respectively. The inside and outside diameters of the small-diameter strip ring are in a range of 13.4 mm to 14.4 mm and 14.9 mm to 15.9 mm, respectively. The height of the large-diameter and small-diameter strip rings is in a range of 1.50 mm to 1.60 mm. The distance between the large-diameter strip ring and the small-diameter strip ring is maintained in an error range of 2.20 mm.
