A system and method for measuring distances related to a target object depicted in an image. A captured digital image is obtained containing a scene with a target object whose dimension is to be measured. The digital image may contain a target object dimension identified by one or more ancillary objects and a reference object in the same or different planes. Image processing is performed to find the reference object using known fiducial patterns printed on the reference object, metadata supplied by a user and/or by the detection of colored papers in the scene of the captured image. Once located and measured, the reference object is used to calculate a pixel scale factor used to measure the target object dimensions. Target object dimensions are provided to an automated or semi-automated measurement process, design and manufacturing system such that customized parts for a supplemental fenestration are provided to end users.

A system and method for measuring distances related to a target object depicted in an image and the construction and delivery of supplemental window materials for fenestration. A method for transforming an image expressed in terms of a first image encoding to a second image encoding, includes converting a set of original scene exposure-factor values into corresponding first and second image encoding values. A transform is then derived between the first image encoding values and the second image encoding values. The transform is then applied to an image encoded in said first image encoding. Examples of different encoding that can be transformed include Rec. 709, sRGB and other known image encoding standards. A system for performing such transformations as well as an electronic device that is capable of performing such transformations are also disclosed.

Specifically, measurement data, such as illustratively colorimetric CIELAB L*a*b* measurements, is obtained for the same portions of the press sheet and proof. This data is acquired in or transformed into a color space which encodes color information in a pre-defined manner that approximates human color perception. Thereafter, through use of a pre-determined model of the, e.g., proofing system, incorporated into pre-defined matching principles which objectively and quantitatively define an accurate appearance match between the depictions produced by both systems, operational settings for the proofing system, such as solid area densities and tint dot areas, are determined which will calibrate the response of the proofing system to that of the press. Consequently, tone and color rendition produced by the proofing system is modified to provide an accurate appearance match to that obtained, from a common image source, on the press, given judgmental color preferences of a human observer and performance limitations of the proofing system.
