Various embodiments relating to insulated and ventilated shellfish storage, for transport for example, are disclosed. An insulated container includes a bottom and walls defining an interior space to accommodate live shellfish. A COhandling feature to handle COthat is released into the interior space by the live shellfish is also provided. The COhandling feature could include, for example, a ventilated wall having a vent at a location toward the bottom of the insulated container, COscrubbing, a COaccumulation structure to accumulate CObelow the live shellfish, and/or a ventilated wall substantially parallel to the bottom to divide the interior space into an animal section to accommodate the live shellfish and a COaccumulation section to accumulate CO. Embodiments are based on a discovery by the inventor that COis a limiting factor for storage time of crustaceans out of water.

Insulated and ventilated shellfish storage

The present disclosure relates to emersed shellfish storage. A container support has a surface to support containers. Each container has respective cells to accommodate live shellfish, such as lobster, in a vertical orientation substantially perpendicular to the surface. Water from a reservoir is pumped, intermittently in some embodiments, to one or more of the containers above the shellfish, and a collector collects and provides to the reservoir the water that is pumped by the pump system and flows over the shellfish. In an embodiment, the cells are provided by a divider that divides an interior space of each container, and the divider carries a perforated top insert at or below a top edge of each container, to distribute fluids to the cells.

Emersed shellfish storage

The present disclosure relates to imaging for determination of crustacean physical attributes. An image of a shell of a live crustacean is captured and processed to determine a physical attribute of the live crustacean. In an embodiment a characteristic of a pattern indicative of moult stage of the live crustacean is detected, from the captured image. Multiple images may be used in some embodiments, including images of different types such as visible spectrum images, infrared spectrum images, and/or ultraviolet spectrum images.
