An engine control system is provided with a dual continuously variable valve duration (CVVD) device to optimize engine performance. The system includes an engine with a combustion chamber, an intake valve for selectively supplying an air-fuel mixture, an ignition plug for combustion, and an exhaust valve for expelling exhaust gas. The CVVD device adjusts the intake and exhaust valve durations. A turbine positioned downstream of the engine increases exhaust pressure, followed by a warm-up catalyst to preheat the exhaust gas, and a gasoline particulate filter (GPF) to filter soot. A controller, based on vehicle driving conditions, adjusts ignition timing, intake, and exhaust durations. When lambda (λ) is 1, the controller controls exhaust duration to avoid overlap with intake valve timing by retarding exhaust valve opening and advancing exhaust valve closing, thereby maintaining a negative valve overlap period and enhancing GPF regeneration and emissions control.

A control method of valve opening and closing for an engine of which an intake continuous variable valve duration (CVVD) apparatus and an intake continuous variable valve timing (CVVT) apparatus are provided on the intake side, and an exhaust continuous variable valve duration (CVVD) apparatus and an exhaust continuous variable valve timing (CVVT) apparatus are provided on the exhaust side. The control method includes: determining, by a controller, a driving region among a predetermined plurality of driving regions according to a speed and a torque of the engine; and controlling, by the controller, opening timing, closing timing, and opening duration of each of an intake valve and an exhaust valve according to the driving region of the engine. The intake valve closing (IVC) timing is before a bottom dead center (BDC) in all driving regions.

A continuous variable valve duration apparatus includes a camshaft, a cam unit on which a cam is formed and the camshaft is inserted, a guide bracket of which an upper guide boss is formed, an inner wheel transmitting the rotation of the camshaft to the cam unit, a wheel housing of which a guide shaft having a guide thread formed thereto to be movably inserted into the upper guide boss is formed thereto, and of which a tail guide guiding the relative movement of the guide bracket is formed thereto, and the wheel housing into which the inner wheel is rotatably inserted, a worm wheel of which an inner thread engaged with the guide thread is formed on inside thereof and of which an outer thread is formed on outside thereof, and a tolerance adjusting pin inserted into the tolerance adjusting portion.

An apparatus for controlling an engine includes: an engine with a cylinder; a throttle valve to adjust a flow rate of intake air supplied to the cylinder; a supercharger to supply supercharged air to the cylinder; an intake valve to supply intake air by selectively opening and closing the cylinder; a variable valve timing device to adjust opening and closing timings of the intake valve; a variable valve duration device to adjust an opening duration of the intake valve; and a controller to adjust the amount of air inside of the cylinder by fixing an intake valve opening (IVO) timing and adjusting an intake valve closing (IVC) timing through the variable valve timing device and the variable valve duration device from a time at which a demanded torque is input to a time at which the demanded torque is followed by the throttle valve or the supercharger.
